Fort Legion Plans 12th Annual Celebration Th^ first issue of the SUN, believed to be printed either the last week of May or the first week of June in the year 1885 by Mr. Rowe of Athlestan, Quebec has disappeared from existence. The paper as it has been reproduced for you is strictly a figment of our imagination — how we would have printed the paper if we had owned it back then. We really don't know with any degree of certainty that it REALLY would have looked like this, but we think so. The paper may be bogus, but the information con- tained therein is not. It was taken from the MALONE PALLADIUM during the period of time that the SUN was first issued. We chose not to take the manner of print that was used in 1885, in printing a serial story on the front page in very small print. Rather, we chose to print those sto- ries, which I remind you again, are all true and in the words of those who actually wrote them, according to newsworthy ness and placement, thereof m. print large enough to read. Some of the stories are composites, since we didn't think it fair to leave you wondering — next week's issue will be back to normal. We don't plan to continue the 1885 series. The biggest story of the day was the railroad place- ment. I guess we don't need to know what the Board of Directors decided in July of 1885. A word about the Eti- quette column...remember, those were Victorian times. The SUN of June 2, 1887 is the first paper we have in our possession and we have reproduced it for you, along with our \very own\ 1885 paper in honor of 100 years of the SUN. (JDB) RED CROSS BLOOD CLINIC JUNE 17, 1985 . . SPONSORS FRANKLIN COUNTY EMPLOYEES 80's Style Family There is nary a little .girl who, after playing house with her assorted Cabbage Patch children, has express- ed a fervent wish to grow up to be a stepmother. Perish the thought! After, all, she has been told forever, and perhaps by her very own stepmother exactly what Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty have had to endure continuously down through the ages at the hands of their wicked stepmothers. And so the story goes. In 1885 when this newspaper was established stepparents were generally attained through the death of one or the other of a child's par- ents. If we think about it, we probably ail have one or two persons in our family ances- try who was a stepparent. In 1985 we are more likely to have a stepparent in our family circle. We all know a stepparent, - some stand out in our minds and and we never think about the fact that others * axe, indeed, stepparents.
