According to Allen Child, chairman of the Franklin County Century Farm Award Search Committee, six outstanding dairy farm businesses are being consi- dered for the award this year. The Century Farm award is a prestious award which is made available to Franklin County farmers approximately every 10 years. Thus far Franklin County has had three award recipients including: the Tarbell farm in North Ban- gor; the Gleason Farm in Maione; and the Child Farm in Maione. This year's Cen- tury Farm Award winner will be announced in the early fall by the New York State Agricultural Society, which acts as primary spon- sors to the award. Bishop Urges Support In a letter sent to Catholic families throughout Northern New York and in a letter to be read May 12 in every Catholic Church within the Diocese of laus J. Brzana appealed to the people of the diocese to sup- port the work of Catholic Char- ities through support of the Mother's Day Appeal, the Diocese or Ugdensburg, people add a special dimension to their family celebration of Mother's Day by reaching out to help other families who need help. ''Many people use this occasion,\ Bishop Brzana said, \to honor their living mothers or to honor the memory of their deceased mothers by a gift to Catholic Charities.\ \Such a gift is appropriate,\ the Bishop said, \because it provides love and care and service.\ The annual Mother's Day Appeal has a goal of $105,000. Last year, Catholic Charities hadanoperating budget of $350,000. The theme of the 1985 Appeal is \Catholic Charities—A Sign Of Hope.\ Mrs Erro1 of Bombay, Special Services to be Held Rev. and Mrs. Bruso Cooks Corners Wesleyan Church located on Avery Road near (he corner of Cooks Corners dnd South Bombay Road will be holding special services open to the public from May 14-19. Each evening, the service will begin at 7 with prayer at 6:30. The time for Sunday morning will he at 11 with Sunday School at 10. Pastor Phillip Huber has announced that the Rev. Robert A. Bruso and his wife, Diane, will be at the church speaking and singing at each service. The Rev. Bruso is from Plattsburgh t \nd +s general evangelist in the Wesleyan Church. Mrs. Bruso is a licensed special worker. He and his wife travel full-time preaching and singing. A former newspaper editor and radio-TV news director, the Rev. Bruso served pasto- rates in New York and Massa- chusetts before entering the full-time field of evangelism in 1982. He is a former prison cha- plain and a member of the National Association of Chris tian Marriage Counselors and is listed in the latest edition of \Who's who in Religion.\ The public is urged to attend. Studies show that for most smokers, it seems necessary to quit en- tirely, in order to stop smok- ing—cutting down just doesn't work! Used as an adjunct in quit smoking programs, a new prescription chewing gum is helping thousands kick the smoking habit. The gum re- leases small amounts of nicotine into the lining of the mouth reducing withdrawal symptoms. News H-n Camp Overlook at Mountain View will open on June 30, 1985 for its fortieth season, according to Ron Howe, Coop erative Extension Agent, 4-H Program. Camp Overlook is a non-profit co-ed youth camp owned and operated by the Cooperative Extension Asso ciations of Franklin and St. Lawrence Counties. As in past years, Franklin County will offer four weeks of camping open to all youth in Franklin County. Full week sessions are being held June 30, July 7, July 28, open to youth 8-13 years of age. The fourth week, starting Aug 4 is open to youth 8-19 years of age. The camp fee this year is $70, with several campership options available. No physical exam is required, but applica tions will not be accepted with out complete health forms and immunization records. Youth from limited income families are eligible for camper ships through the cooperation of New York Stare Division for Youth. Applications for these camperships are available from the 4-H Program Office or by calling Donna Bouissey at 483 6767 ext. 353.
