Residents of Dawley Farm have complained about several large dogs from outside the sub division that have caused prob lems. Complaints to the dog control officer essentially have been fruitless because the dogs have to be caught in the act of roam ing without their owners \before they can be caught and held pending payment of the fine. The dogs always disappear be fore the officer can arrive. Offer Course A defensive driving course will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, January 10 at Manlius Village Centre, 1 Elmbrook Dr. West, Manlius. A registration fee will be col lected at the door. New York state drivers who complete the course are eligible for a 10 per cent reduction in motor vehicle liability insur ance premiums for three years, in addition to a reduction of three points from their driving records. One Dawley Farm resident spoke of a large black Labrador retriever that is of particular concern because, she says, it will come after people and has at tacked her dog. \This won't stop unless people stop letting their dogs loose,\ she said. It is the dog control officer's opinion.accordingto the Dawley Farm resident, that because there was no leash law in the town for so many years, people still haven't changed their way of thinking and are still letting their dogs out to walk them selves. Manlius Substation Nears Completion The Manlius Fire Dept. sub station on Pompey Center Rd. is expected to be ready for occu pancy by mid-January. Construction of the six-bay garage was begun in August. Other than landscaping, which will be delayed until spring, the project will be completed about a month later than anticipated at groundbreaking. The new building primarily will provide fire protection ser vice residents of southeastern Manlius and northeastern Pom pey. Its location near the Pompey-Manlius town line will eliminate the need for firefighters to drive trucks through heavy village traffic to respond to calls in those rapidly-expanding areas. The Village of Manlius issued $425,000 in bonds to cover the cost of the new building. Con tracts with the towns of Manlius and Pompey, which are within the Manlius Fire District, share „the cost ofthe building based on the assessed value of property in the district. The building was designed by Hueber, Hares and Glavin. Broadmoor Construction is gen eral contractor.
