Selected from a field of 32 applicants, he was judged on his scholastic record, leadership ability, citizenship standards, and the potential ability to benefit by higher education and function effectively in a democratic society During his high school career. Mr Muldoon had a 4 2.\> grade average While atten ding FM, he was president of the National Honor Societv vice president of the l>atin club, captain of the basketball team, copy editor of the school's year book and photo editor of the school newspaper. After receivings the Whirlpool $5,000 scholarship, Mr. Muldoon was awarded a full Naval ROTC grant to Mas sachusetts Institute of Technology. Therefore he relinquished the Whirlpool scholarship which will be transferred to the first runner- up Mary Armbruster of St. Joseph, Mich Whirlpool Corp . a leading manufacturer and marketer of major home appliances head quartered in Benton Harbor, Mich., makes the scholarships available through its Whirlpool Foundation Sons and daughters of employees compete each year for a limited- number of the $5,000 first- place scholarships and $500 runner-up awards.
