Nearl y ?6 , 00O.00 worth of valu- able road building material has been saved to the town of Brookhaven through tho watch fulness of Superin- t endent of Highways A. W. Mur- ray. The concrete roads that are b eing built on contract at Ronkon- koma and Setauket called • for the removing of the former surface by the contractor. Mr. Murray found that this material , which in many sections of the Island is considered waste , was the famous Poeksklll gravel saturated with a fine oil bin- der ,, which cannot be bought today for lsss than , $5 a yard. Mr. Murra y Induced the contractor to remove this material to other roads- that needed repair and wid- ening. Through the courtesy of certain residents It has been pos- sible to store the surplus of this material , on private land for future road use. This Peek- , klll gravel Is a mixture that sets.uV like cement and is tbe best semi-permane nt road material obtainable. This rocqver- £d . gravel is even better than can be secured today. The people in the Ronkonkoma and Setauket Sec- tions are as strong in their approval of Mr. Murray ' s mana gement of this situation ¦ as they are of his reor- ganization of the whole Highwa y De- partment.
