It meets with every Ideal looked tor by a, lover of seashore pleasure s . and pastimes. . The Bay and the Ocean ¦with its wonderful beach , offering the finest surf bathin g along the Coast. The development of. roads along this wonderful stri p of land Is a ¦work for- which the Long Island State Park Commission is to be gratefully commended as It will give the people of the State an \ o p - portunity of seeing and knowing more about Long Island than was ever possible before. The enjoy- ment possibilities for the peop le can only be imagined. ' The State is building a bathi ng pavilion to accommodate ten thous- »Ti rt n e oni e at a time, with parkin g spaces tor thirteen thousand cars. This is . bow being actually done west of Fire Island, and it is now proposed to cross the Inlet and ex- tend easterl y and eventually meet the road to connect with the West- hampton Bridge. This would make one of the most Inspiring rides In the country. We who have known and\ enjoyed the North Shore ' of [ Long Island , with Its bays aad the Sotmd, should, make an effort to see the progress along the South Shore , especially its Ocean beaches. We are bound to admit that there la a charm sod ap p eal to the ocean which cannot be found anywhere else. The wonderful breakers and'the r a asslve- ness ot the ocean ever leaves an in- spirin g impression upon those who gaze on it. Allow me to quote here from Ar- thur E. Rowland. Chief Engineer of the Long Island State Park Commis- sion in speaking of the Ocean Boulevard development on Long Island: \Ima gine a road skirting the breakers of the Atlantic Ocean oh one side and a few yards away the gentle waves of the Great South Bay. And It will be that way for miles. • It will be the greatest Ocean Boulevard in the world. \ In going east from the lighthouse the visitor Is greeted with the sur- p rise of seeing a. wonderful summer colony, Saltalre , with several hun- dred beautiful cottages , a f ew churches, stores , its own water works and Improvements which the people of the mainland do not dream exist over there.
