Bowlaad stated that the 1930 con- struction program would bring the parkway to tbe Suffolk line and per- haps beyond , and he believed the time was ' opportune to consider the n atter ot securing rights of way and the location of crossroads in Suffolk. He suggested that the supervisors appoint County Attorney A. O. Smith and County- Attorney Frank P. In some cases he said It was necessary to acq uire property in residential de- velopments , which added greatly to the cost of the rights of way. Jame s S. Cooper , edi tor and pub- lishe r of the Babylon Leader , a nd a former Justice of the Peace oE that township, protested to the Super- visors against the d etermination to construct the Sunrise Highway north of the railroad. Co oper said the highway should be built south o ftbe railroad and as near to it as possible. He believed it would be unnecessary to widen the highway through tie villages. He contended that the route he out- lined would be much shorter than the ono trial has ' been selected , would obviate tho necessity of b ridging the railroad , and be of greater benefit to the villages In Babylon and I s lip towns.
