Approximately 130 ,000 copies of the summer Issue of the telephon e direct ory for Nassau and Suffolk Counties will be mailed to sub- scribers by the New York Telephone Company during the period from July 1 to Jul y 11. Ab out 90 , 000 copies go to Nassau Count y telephone subscribers and 40 , 000 to those in Suffolk. Tho en- tire edition consists of approximate- ly 290 , 000 c d ples , the balance hav- ing been printed to supply those New York City telephone users who frequently have occasion to call tel- ephones in suburban Long Island. The alphabetica l section of the new directory consists ' of 348 pages •—an increase of eight pages over the last directory-:—and contains approx- i m ately 96 ,000 listings. There Is al- so a classified or \ where-to-buy-H\ section In the lack of the book. The classified directory for Nassau Coun- ty has grown ft om 132 to 144 pages and that for Suffolk from 62 to 56 pages since the last Issue. The first eight , pages of the book contain information for telephone users. Instructions are given for m aking emergency calls , using the directory and making calls from dial telephones. An explanation ot the various types of long distance calls , Including International and ship-to- shore connections , Is given , together ¦with a table of rates to Important points. A list of manager s and sub- urban Long Island business offices of the company is also included. —; n POTATO GROWERS AGREE TO CODE Ho pe to Bring About Better Demand for the Long Island Potato. Nearly two hundred potato grow- ers and shipper s met in the Farm Bureau room , court house. River- hea d , on July 2 and enthusiasticall y adopted a code of trade -practices to regulate .potato marketing in eastern Suffolk' Count y.. The code as adopted does, npt 5 pjjly r tp, ; .yte s tern. Suffolk . County or to Nassau County. The purpose back ' of the adoption • of the code is to.brin g about a bet- ! ter demand for the unexcelled Long Island potato thru more Uniform grading and thru more orderly . mar- keting. For the past three years , Suffolk County potato growers and dealers have under gone heavy finan- cial losses. Faced with another year of low prices , the potato men are convinced that they must take dras- tic steps or go out of business.
