PHYLLIS DESM O N D Phelps Office Vacancy at West Point Academy A preliminary examination for a vacancy at the United States Military Academy at West Point, and at the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis will be held July 13 at Geneva, Auburn, Ithaca and Norwich, according to information from Congress man John Taber. The prelimin ary examination is under the U. S. Civil Service Commission. To be eligible for entrance to either Academy, a candidate must be between 17 and 22 years of age. Applicants must pass a strict physical examination, and must be residents of the 36th Congressional District. Those desiring a permit to take the examination should com municate with Congressman Ta ber at Washington, D. C on or before June 1, giving full name, date and place of birth, resi dence address and the town in which they wish to take the ex amination. Legion Installs New Officers Installation of officers was held •at the last meeting of the Seeley B. Parish Post No. 457 at the Legion home Thursday, May 7th. Ontario County Volture No. 822, 40 and 8 , headed by Francis J. Heaney, Installed the following officers: Charles Case, Command er; Gayle Collins, first Vice-com mander, Joseph Rubery, Jr., 2nd Vlce-commander; Robert Fogarty Adjutant; Norman Williamson, finance officer; Camiel Hoven Chaplain; Charles Bracko, Sgt. of Arms; Ralph Petty, historian. Robert Vingee Future Farmer State Officer Two Phelps F.F.A. members re ceive honors at the State FJT.A Convention. Robert Vingee was elected Second Vice-President of the N e w York Asso. which re presents 294 Chapters in New York State and some -6000 mem bers. Robert is President of the Phelps Chapter, a Senior and is active In school affairs. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marien Vin gee, Newark Road. Robert also received a $50 00 award by tak ing first place in the State Safe- y and Fire Prevention Contest. He was also one of 140 to receive the Empire Farmer Degree. The secoud member to receive an award was Thomas Salisbury, son of Mr and Mrs. Robert Salis bury, who received a $25 00 awaEjl far taking first place in the \Good Seed and Crop Variety Competi tion” in the individual award sec tion. Chauffeur Licenses Expire May 31st Chauffeur licenses for many New York state chauffeur driv ers will expire on May <31, accord ing to information from Motor Vehicle Commissioner James R. Macduff. Renewal now will save standing In line later, Mr. Macduff sug gests. There are 1,250,000 licensed chauffeurs in the state. Fees for the three-year chauf feur licenses have risen from $4 formerly to $6 under new legis lation. The increase will help finance expanded State Police highway patrol. Mrs. John Salisbury, Jr., won the .“Cinderella’' contest at Roch ester Radio City Tuesday. She win appear on the finals program Friday with an all-expense paid trip to New York City as the prize. Commer cial companies nave available a variety of -health insurance poli cies for individuals. Of course, the premiums for individual policies are higher than those for group plans. GIVE TO CONQUER CANCER Future Farmer Father and Son Banquet Held The Fourth annual Future Farmer Father and son banquet was held in the cafeteria of the new Grade school at Phelps on Wednesday, May 13 at 7 :00 p m. The Banquet committee ap pointed by Robert Vingee, Chap ter President, was Glen Zaso, Chairman, and Gary Scherer, Richard VanDeventer and Carl DeRuyter. The program for the evening included group singing, reports by officers, awarding of various Chapter prizes, a sihort movie on new methods of hay harvest ing and a report by Thomas Salisbury on the State meeting.
