Allen of Rochester, formerly of Phelps, was arrested recently hy Ontario County Sheriff’s Deputy Calvin P. Erowu charged with abandoning his child. Al-raigned before Peace Justice Boy Cheney, Allen waiv ed examination and was later released on $500.00 cash hail to await action by the May grand jury on a charge of abandon ioent Annand Lacy has kindly given the Echo a copy of the G- L. F. Annual Report for 1946^-47. A- mong other interesting facts the report indicates that use ot the G. L. F. last year was th< highest on record as reflected by wholesale purchasing volume and marketing volume. Tlie report shows 57,500 common stockhold ers as well as several thousand holders of preferred stock. Farm patrons of the G. L. F , the re port \mentions numbered 150 000 last ypar in addition to ap* proximately 200,000 who were occasional purchaser*. Miss Nellie E. White has tn her home a Chickering Square piano, on antique, and being de sirous of selling it she^ wrote thi manufacturers. In their re ply they advised that their his- ^iorical collection was complete but they gay* sonrp interesting information concerning the In strument. Ouckering’s records show that Miss White's piano bears serial number 511 and was- -originally shipped from Boston to Peter Clark, Francistown, N. H. on August 72, 1827. Miss White’s father bought the piano in the early 1890’s from_J. W. Martin, Rochester, N. Y. The Chickering Piano Co., we under stand arc this' year celebrating their 125th anniversary. Nancy Huston of D*nsville, N: Y. has been elected to member ship to the National Honor Soc iety, by the Superintendent of Schools, Lewis W. Bradley at Dansvilie Central School. Calvin P. Brown of Shorts- ville, -Ontario County Deputy 'Sheriff for the past 11 years and well known in Phelps, has made a successful hobby of directing home-town minstrel shows. -Dur ing the past 15 years he has dir ected between 50 and 75 of these affairs for organizations such to tbe Granges, Kiwanis Clubs, churches, fraternities and other civic and fraternal groups from widely scattered localities in cluding Phelps, Itomulus, Canan daigua, <3aki Corners, lim a, Williamson. RushMlle, etc., etc. Mr. Brown specializes in bring ing out latent talent among, ama teurs aYid points with pride to the record of many indiMdiAls whom he has helped to develop among whom he mentions Jo Ann Pclone of Phelps, the eight year 'old ballet and tap dancer who is fast_ becoming well - known among show patrons. It is Mr. Brown's present fcmbitlon to direct anu produce an outdoor -summer minstrel show. A beautiful cross was dedicat ed last Sunday at the Phelps jMplhodist Church In memory of Cari and Bertha Bengtson. Clar ence Lindstrom presented, tbe memorial'for their cousins and Harry Howard received It for tlie chnrch. Many friends and relatives were present. The Quarterly Meeting of th* Directors of the Phelps Ceme tery Corporation was held on April 15 th. The officers are* President A. S. Hildreth; Vice- president, F. A. Salisbury; Clerk. C. E. Eacker; Treasurer, J.. B. Parmdee; Directors, A. P. Hides, N. L. Rockefeller. President Hil dreth reported that the re-chart ing .ogf the Cemetery has'been completed. Treasurer Parmelee reported the sura of $24,600.0° in the perpetual care fund, aU of which Is invested in Ontarii. County and U. S. bonds winch yield $565.00 annual interest Due to low interest rates, the Board of -Directors have difficulty in maintaining the Cemetery and will appreciate the cooperation of lot owners. ~~ Scottle, young son of Mayor -and Mrs. S.
