Because he knelt down and prayed thrice a day to the God of his fathers with hia windows opened toward Jerusalenj, he was thrown to the lions, much to the chapo-in of hiB friend Darius, the king, How he was saved, and his enemies torn to pieces is a thrilling tale. Lesson for August 11—\Daniel.\ When Nebuchadnezzar had cap- tured Jerusalem he took back with him to his palace in (BaJbylon the fin- est specimens of Hebrew younp- men he could find. These were treated with the moat gracious consideration. Presented with the best of food and tausrht -by the finest teachers, they occupied a position of unusual priv- ilege. By such generosity of treat- ment the king hoped- to make good Chaldeans out of them. But Daniel and; his three famous friends, Shadrach, Meshach and Ab-. ednego, would not sacrifice the faith 1 and morals of their fathers. All of them registered conscientious abjec-' tions to the king's program and,, therefore, got into trouble, barely esearpinpf with their lives. .Daniel must have had unusual CHRISTIAN SCIENCE. \Spirit\ is the subject of the les- son- sermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, on n Sunday, August 11th. The golden text is: \He that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; (but he that soweth to the pirit shall of the spirit real life ever- lasting.\ (Galatians 6:8). Among the citations which com- prise bhe Less on-Sermon ; s the ic\ lowinp- from the Bible: \This I say then Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall' not fulfill the lust of the flesh.\ (Galatians 5;18). The lesson-sermon also includes the following correlative selections from the textbook of Christian Sci- ence, \Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,\ by Mary Baker Eddy: \Man walks in the direction toward which he looks, and where his treasure is., there will his heart be also. If our hopes and affections are spiritual, they come from above, not from beneath, and they Bear as of old the fruits of the spirit.\ The Han$bJ^£enter M.
