Wins Navy Scholarship John Minogue, son of Mr., and Mrs. John M. Minogue of 43 Mattowee, Granville, N.Y. has recently been awarded a full scholar ship by the Navy Depart- ment. John, a feshman Eco- nomics major, has been a mem- ber of the NROTC Unit as a Contract student since Septem- ber 1971. This scholarship will pay his full tuition, all books and military uniforms, andpro- vides John with a $100. per month - subsistence allowance while atterding college. Upon graduation he my be cominis- sioned an Ensign in the Navy or a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps and serve four years of active duty. Founded in 1843, Holy Cross is the oldest Catholic college in New England, The liberal arts institution has an enroll- ment of approximately 2400 undergraduates. Holy Cross is the last college in the 28-school nationwide net- work of Jesuit higher education to - become - co-educational, having accepted 200 women for next fall's class of 1976. South Poultney By Mcs. Emily J, Ellis Mrs. Anthony Pacyna, Sr., accompanied by her daughter, Miss Joan Pacyna of Albany ,who is spending the Mother's Day week end with her parents, were in Hudson Falls on Saturday to attend the First Communion of the Pacynas' grandson, J ohnnie. Last week they also attended the Confirmation of another grandson, David. Both are sons of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Pacyna \ of Hudson Falls. They also at- tended the party at the Pacyna home in Hudson Fails, following the church services. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tejral of Astoria, and their nephew, Ed- ward Tricomi IH of Woodside, spent a long week ead and Mother's Day with their Mother and grandmother, Mrs. Albert Schaefer. Miss - Paula Albany, arrived Friday to be here for the Mother's Day week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Breznick. Mrs. Bregnick's sister, Mrs.Walter Beryon of Whitehall, was a Fri- day guest, Miss Minnie Williams, South St., Poultney, was rushed by Breznick of ambulance to the Rutiand Hos- - pital after suffering a fractured hip in a fall at her home. Some years ago she also fractured her hip in afall, Her many friends wish her a speedy re- covery. The Williams family were formar regidents, and will be rewsembered as the Lewis Mrs. Ids H s, Mrs. Meriam Roberts and Mrs, Emily Eilis apent Wednesday in Rutland and West Rutland. Mrs. E. Devid Morris, the former Barbara Fraser, and a former resident, now residing in Holiday, Florida, returnedto her home after a ten day stay in the Meuse Hospital, Dunedin, Fla., where she was in the In- tensive care unit following an attack at her home, and at this writing _ is improved. Senator Aiken was the guest sperker atthe 135thCommence- ment exercises heldSunday May - 14 at ten o'clock. Following the dinner Mrs. Jones flew to Wash- ington with her guests, where she will spend the next three weeks with her three daughters who live in and ar ound Washing- ton. Mrs. Jones is the organist at the Poultney Presbyterian Church, and on May 31 she will celebrate her birthday , and also 56 years as organist at the church. Florida, have just returned from a C cruise where they celebrated their 45th wed- ding anniversary. Mr. Smith is a nephew of Mrs. George E. Treehouse, Granville and a cousin of Emily Ellis. Miss Ann E, Jones received word this week of the death of Susanne Pecor, 11 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Robert Pecor of Underhill, Vermont, Mrs. Pecor is the dauther of Richard Woodard of Waterbury, Vermont and Bradenton,Flor- idr, and step daughter of the late Katherine Jones Woodard, formerly of this town. Suzanne was a victim of cystic fibrosis. Much sympathy is extended the family. Our word 'suede' comes to us from the Swedish language, and was the original term for Swed- ish leather.
