The new estimated total is 3375 for the September 9 opening. New teachers will have an orientation day Thursday, September 3. At nine a.m. they will meet in the building in which they will work for in-service work with their principal. A lunch will be provided in the Yorkshire building cafeteria at noon Then the teachers will return to their respective buildings for further work. On September 8 all teachers will have a day of meetings. New teachers will meet at 8:30 a.m. in the Yorkshire cafeteria At 10.30 the entire Pioneer faculty will meet in the Yorkshire auditorium. Board President Joseph Reisdorf will welcome all back to school and administrators will introduce their new teachers. Following the annual noon luncheon, the faculty will adjourn to their respective buildings for meetings. Schools will open on Wednesday, September 9 at the same times as last year. Students who need schedule changes should, or new students who have not registered, should report to the building where they will attend. Off Critical List Dick Howe, 20, Schutt Road, Chaffee, has been taken off the critical list and his condition is now fair at the Burn Treatment Center of Emergency Hospital. Dick was burned over 30 percent of his body last Wednesday. A tractor he was driving up a hill to gather firewood at Bluemont Ski Resort overturned, spilling gasoline which ignited, burning him. The construction of the new United Methodist Church in Holland is progressing according to schedule and it is expected that the January I completion Sheriff's Department Arrests Two Hen Sheriff Dalton W. Carney reports that Paul Harrison, age 17, of Dunham Rd , Johnaonburg, was arrested by Wyoming County Sheriffs Sergeant Irving Fitzgerald and Deputy W. Shane Kaufman, charging him with petit larceny for the theft of several articles from a Town of Orangeville residence. Harrison was taken before Judge Clarence Krotz in the Town of Orangeville and was committed to the Wyoming County Jail in lieu of $75 bail. He is to appear in court at a later date. Sheriff Carney also reports that Norman Tozier, age 48, of Centerline Rd , Town of Sheldon, was arrested by Sergeant Fitzgerald and Deputy Kaufman, charging him with criminal possession of stolen goods. Mr Tozier was taken before Judge Norbert Langa in the Town of Sheldon and was committed to the Wyoming County Jail in lieu of $1000 bail He is to appear in court at a later date. Buffalo Youth Kitted In Nini-Bus Accident Dennis B Cronin, 19, of 27 Yale PI., Buffalo, was killed in an accident which occurred about 12.45 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Cattaraugus County Rt. 16 and Cagwin Rd , Town of Yorkshire, about two miles northwest of Lime Lake Mr Cronin, a passenger in a mini-bus which failed to negotiate a turn at the intersection and overturned several times in a field, was thrown from the vehicle, which landed atop of him, crushing his chest He died of chest and (Continued on page thirteen) date will be met. Experimental Transfer Station For Hinsdale Community Disposal Service of Sardinia will open an experimental \transfer station\ in the Town of Hinsdale this Saturday. This \transfer station,\ the brain child of Hugh L. Smith, president of Community Disposal Service will permit residents of Hinsdale to drop all types of garbage and waste material down chutes, where it will be compacted and later removed A second large container, below the station level, will permit persons to dump large items, such as old refrigerators, tree stumps, etc. The station will replace open dumps and land fill operations and, if successful, will be a boon to many small communities which seriously need such service. Drowiiing At Lime Lake Louis Palombaro, 17, of Buffalo, drowned in Lime Lake Saturday night after a boat he was rowing and a 16-foot powerboat collided near the lake's north shore A companion, Kenneth A Cavalieri, also 17, of Clarence, who was in the rowboat with Palombaro, was unhurt Charles G. Kramer, 23, of Buffalo, operator of the powerboat, and his passengers, William Johnson, 40, of Cheektowaga and the latter's son, William Jr , 12 also escaped injury Troopers who investigated said the boys, whose boat lacked lights, had set out from a cottage rented by the Cavalien youth's parents. They were headed for a pavilion on the north shore Cavalieri told the troopers Palombaro had just relieved him at the oars when the powerboat sailed right over the top of the rowboat, carrying Palombaro Pioneer Central School Home Room List Appears On Center Paget along with it. The damaged rowboat sank and Cavalieri was rescued by the occupants of the undamaged powerboat. Palombaro's body was located about an hour later The dead youth, described as an excellent swimmer, had arrived at Lime Lake Saturday morning with the Cavalieri family to remain there over Labor Day. Defective Wires At approximately 5:45 p.m. last Friday, the Crystal Hose Co was called to the residence of Jean Musick on Savage Rd. to put under control a fire in an electric range caused by defective wires. The fire was confined to the range and caused minor damage. Bank Moroer The merger of The First National Bank of Salamanca Into First Trust Union Bank was announced today by Walter G. Taber, President of the merged bank. The merger became effective at Three O'clock p.m on Monday .August 31 Latham B. Weber, member of First National's Board of Directors, has been appointed a Director of First Trust Union Bank representing Salamanca on the Board. The merged bank is the eighth largest bank in the Ninth Banking District comprised of the eight western New York Counties. It is the largest bank in the banking district outside of Erie and Chautauqua Counties. The resulting bank has total assets in excess of $62 Million and Capital Funds in excess of $5 Million, Mr. Taber said. The Salamanca Office represents the ninth branch office in ths First Trust branch system. Three offices are located in Cattaraugus County, namely Salamanca, Franklinville, and the newly opened trailer bank at Yorkshire. The permanent office at Yorkshire is now under construction. Other branch offices located in Allegany County are at Angelica, Belfast, Bolivar, Canaseraga, Cuba, and Friendship. The Main Office is at Wellsville. Pioneer Marching Band To Take Part In State Fair, Rushford Parade The Pioneer Central Marching Band had been diligently working to perfect its routine for presentation at the New York State Fair in Syracuse yesterday. Only one parade remains for the students, the parade at Rushford on Labor Day.
