Times Photo Chaffee-Sardinia Kiwanis To Do Real Good Deed Members of the Chaffee-Sardinia Kiwanis have invited 15 boys and IS girls from the West Seneca State School to be their guests at the town park and swimming pool on Monday, August 10 In many instances these children, who are both blind and retarded, have been abandoned by their families Their only contact with the world outside their SLhoo) is by the all-too-few invitations to visit homes or parks extended by service organizations and individuals Chjffee-Sardinia Kiwanis is hjving these children at the same time as they are having their annual Kiwanis picnic About 25 families will host the West Seneca State School children The children will arrive about 130 pm Games and swimming wdl take up the afternoon and the Kiwanians will serve them supper Later they will return to the school Our congratulations to th e Kiwanians for giving happiness to children in need of attention and affection Not Much Left Wyoming County Deputies recovered a car stolen from Buffalo on July 22 The car, belonging to IIollis Underwood of Kenville Rd . Buffalo was recovered on July 25 on a hidden farm road on the Glenn Tozier farm in Sheldon The car had been stripped of its wheels, transmission, radiator, radio, steering wheel and battery Mr. Underwood stated that this is the third time this car has been stolen Route 16 Hen Go To Albany Six members of the Route 16 Association, together with Myron Elkins, regional head of the State Office of Planning Coordination left Tuesday for a meeting with Mr Crangle, head of the State Office of Planning Coordination in Albany In March the Association members asked for a review of the information which had led the Office o f Planning Coordination to recommend Route 219 for a limited access expressway over Route 16. Association members have provided information relative to industry, schools, population, trucking and many other items which lead them to believe Route 16 is the logical route to become th e limited access expressway The association has also circulated petitions along the entire route to let our legislators know th e feeling of local residents. These petitions are t o be returned by July 31 If you haven't already signed, do so now If you have petitions in your possession, get them in by July 31 If you want your community to grow, support the Route 16 Association Town Of Java Fills Unexpired Terms At the last regular meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Java, Carl Graves was appointed to fill the unexpired term of assessor t o replace Donald Spielvogel, who moved out of town. Mrs Mary Grover was appointed to fill out the term for the remainder of the year as water commissioner of North' Java The regular meeting night of the Town of iava has been changed to the first Thursday of each month, to be held at 8 p.m. at the Java Town Building Forty years ago, when I went school, we took pride in appearing at school cleanly and neatly dressed. Further we came to school to learn. We respected our teachers and realized they had something t o give us that would help us throughout our lives. Something has changed and I believe this change is for the worse. * Today, thanks to a ruling by the State Board of Education, students may dress as they please and a certain, fortunately small, segment of the student body has elected t o take advantage of this ruling to arrive at school looking as sloppy and uncouth as possible. There seems to b e a direct connection between the student's appearance and his work The sloppier the appearance, the sloppier the work turned in, and the higher the percent of failures. I believe the parents of these children ar e directly responsible for their appearance by their permissive attitude toward them. Whether they realize it or not this attitude is harmful to the child, not helptui. Teachers, in my time, were looked up t o and we listened carefully to what they had to (Continued on page elrvcn) Delevan Couple Injured In Crash An accident on the Genesee Rd., Town of Sardinia at 7 15 p.m. Saturday, involving James Shouidice, 22, of 8386 N Main St., Eden, and Mr. and Mrs. Ted Haynes of Delevan resulted in the Shouidice youth being issued a summons for reckless driving. Mr. and Mrs. Haynes were taken to the Chaffee Hospital in the Springville ambulance, where 16 stitches were required to close x °unds in Mr Haynes' head and four on his left arm. Mrs. Haynes was treated for a small cut on the left temple and minor cuts on the left leg. Shouidice was examined for rib bruises. Both cars were extensively damaged. Mr. and Mrs. Haynes were on their way to attend a class reunion at Kissing Bridge at the time of the accident U. B. Graduate Of 1900 Honored Representing the University of Buffalo Alumni Association, Raymond A. Garlapo of Arcade presented the following resolution to Erwin L Fish RESOLVED That the Pharmacy Alumni Association extend t o Erwin L Fish an expression of its appreciation of his many years of devotion to his University and the Alumni Association Mr. Fish's connection with the University of Buffalo began as a student in the School of Pharmacy where he took lus degree m 1900.
