Y.—Wednesday, July 8,1*70 Issue 52 Publisher's Corner Good, Clean Country Air Schedule Annual Meeting Of Pioneer Cehlral District Aside from the fact that it is against the law t o burn rubbish like this, it certainly can't be good public relations with the neighbors whose curtains turn grey, the motorists who are half blinded as the smoke drifts across the highway and the asthmatics who have difficulty in breathing without this added Two Board Members For Reelection Up Claris Persons, Delevan, and Joseph Reisdorf, RFD , Arcade, have filed petitions to run for 5-year terms each on the Pioneer Central Board of Education. The election will be held at the annual school meeting Tuesday, July 14, at 8 p.m in the Yorkshire building. Mr Persons of Persons Funeral Home, Delevan, has been a member of the Pioneer Board since the merger of Arcade and Delevan-Machias in 1966 and was a member of the Delevan board for a year prior to that He was the chairman of the combined board that year that brought into being the merger of the districts Mr Reisdorf, a dairy farmer of Curriers, has been a board member since 1956 when he was elected to the Arcade group He insult t o their lungs. The heads of the same concerns who are causing this nuisance are the same men who most staunchly support Sur fight against water pollution and other pollutants. In many instances they may be unaware that their employees are burning trash but in other instances they indicates that he wants to continue the promised plan of payment for the new building at Yorkshire. \We promised to have that paid for in five years when we agreed to build,\ he says. \I also hope to see some more site work done, at least the playgroud area this coming year.\ Mr. Reisdorf is married to the former Marianne Rast and they have a daughter in college, Rosemary, majoring in (Continued on page seven) Boy Drowns At Pike A family outing at Milay Camp Site in Pike turned into a tragedy on July 4. Michael J Meyers, 7, of Swan St., Batavia was swimming in a pond with two brothers and a sister He dove from a small raft and never surfaced His body was recovered but he was pronounced dead by Dr Bissell. Holland Central School Bond Issue Is Approved By a vote of 389 to 52 the residents of the Holland Central School District approved the construction of a new middle school at a special referendum held on June 30 The estimated cost of the building and the development of athletic fields will not exceed $2,250,000 The new middle school will be built on an 18 acre site located on Partridge Road The site was acquired earlier this year Tne new school will house grades, 5, 6, 7 and 8 and will accommodate 720 pupils. Earl Martin of Buffalo is the architect When the middle school is completed, the present elementary building will be used exclusively for kindergarten and grades 1 through 4 The present junior-senior high school building will become a senior high school and will house grades 9 through 1 2 are well aware of-it but too lazy or too cheap to drive the few extra miles to an authorized dump and pay the few dollars for dumping privileges. The fifth annual meeting of the Pioneer Central School District will be held July 14 at 8 p.m EDST in the new Yorkshire building auditorium Business to be conducted includes the 1970-71 budget and election of two board members The Pioneer Central School budget of estimated expenditures will be read and discussed before voting takes place According to school officials, the new budget shows a tax increase of about $2 per $1000 on true value assessed valuation The final rate will be Alfred Thiele Dies Wyoming County coronet and deputy sheriffs reported Mr Thiele died in his garage late July 4 from carbon monoxide poisoning He had also taken sleeping pills. Mr. Thiele, 33, was a crane operator at the Chevrolet plant in Buffalo He was born in Germany, came to Buffalo in 1958 and moved to North Java last year. He had served in the U. S. Army. He is survived by his wife, Margaret and two children, Eric and Christine of North Java and a mother, brother and sister, all of Germany. Arcade Agway Expands John Thaine, and Ida Lawton of Arcade Agway survey the new addition as the walls rise A new $30,000, 5700 square foot addition to Arcade Agway will be completed by September 1, according to John Thame, manager of the business. Extending south from the west end of the mam building, it will provide much needed display and storage space A patio on the street side will provide a display area for garden toots and equipment A second expansion will commence after the first is completed A new service and installation shop about 1500 square feet in size will be added to the garage on the west side of the property Several new employees wQl be needed to man the new facilities determined by the 1970 valuations available in August and the changes in the equalization rates Included in the 1970-71 budget will be provisions for two school buses and a station wagon at state- contract price The election of board members wdl fill the five year terms of Claris Persons and Joseph Reisdorf, both of whom have filed petitions to have their names on the ballot The president of the Board of Education, Jack Marsh wdl call the July 14 meeting to order, after which the notice of annual meeting will be read and then a permanent chauman for the meeting will be elected and tellers will be aDDointed (Continued un page twelve Queen Contestants For Wyoming County Fair The 1970 Wyoming County Fair Queen will be crowned during the opening night show on Monday, August 24 The queen will receive a $50 Government Bond and the two runners up wQl each receive a $25 Government Bond In addition, the queen will be eligible to go to Syracuse t o take part in the Queen's dinner and to participate in the traditional opening day ceremonies of the New York State Exposition as a member of the Court of Queens. Contestants will be judged on the basis of attractiveness, personality and poise during the Monday night parade and at a dinner Saturday night, August 22. Aspirants for this honor must be residents of Wyoming County, single and between the ages of 18 and 25 and be sponsored by an organization or business. For additional information or appbeations, which must be filed by August 1, one may contact Russell Hurlburt, Castde, who is in charge of the contest Dies hi Sleep Alvie Rogers of North Woods Road, Arcade was found dead in bed in his trailer home Monday morning. He apparently suffered a massive heart attack Dr Paul Dooley issued a certificate of death due to natural causes Yorkshire Branch Of Citizens Central Bank To Open Monday Anson F Sherman, president of The Citizens Central Bank, Arcade, today announced that the bank's newest office in the Big \N\ Plaza, Yorkshire, will open for business on Monday morning, July 13 The office is temporarily located in a mobile unit in the plaza parking lot awaiting completion of the permanent site within the plaza later this year Manager of CCB's Yorkshuc branch is Rdbert H Duguid, 129 Liberty St , Arcade, and the tellers are Barbara Dorrunick 1015 Chaffee Rd Arcade and Betty Davis R D Freedom
