At this meeting it developed that the State Department of Transportation is opposed to two expressways south bound from Buffalo. The judgment that has to be made is whether Route 16 through East Aurora and Arcade will be selected or Route 219 through Springvillc and EUicottvillc. In the event one is selected for an expressway, limited access, 4 lanes, the other would be improved to a good serviceable highway. It is the determined position of the businessmen and civic leaders in the East Aurora-Olean Route 16 Association that traffic volume and industrial development mandate the selection of this route for expressway status. In order to get prompt attention and fast action this association will present at an early date a petition to the State Engineers and to the Governors Office. This petition will be presented by a selected committee from this area in person in Albany. The officers announced the appointment of Lcibce •> Wheeler, President of the Buffalo Aeronautical Corporation and publisher of the Tri-County Times as a member of the East Aurora-Olean Expressway Association, effective October 14, 1969 and in the community in particular The club president, Joseph Buckley, said that lectures such as this one will help make the club members more aware of the drug-abuse situation and provide a basis for an action program to provide a system of drug-abuse education for the community. The public is cordially invited to attend. Last week we agreed to publish the / best letters written for and against the Vietnam War policy of President Nixon — one pro and one con — by the students of both Pioneer Central School and Holland Central School. Below will be found the best letters written by students at Holland Central: VIETNAM EDITORIAL By Gary Crawford Holland Central School I am not a war monger. As a matter of fact I hate war, and all of the destruction and loss-jof lives that it causes. But I am not for the withdrawal and de-escalation of forces and equipment from Vietnam, as long as there is the threat of a Communist take over in Southeast Asia. It would be defeating our purpose there in the first place if we should pull out now. At our initial sign of remittance, the Communists would move right in and take our places. Vietnam would be an easy target without American troops to defend it, and we know it. Peace is important. But we cannot be sure of continuing peace and freedom unless we contain the possessions of the Communist countries. Communism is real, its power can be felt throughout the world It is not a very nice way of living and it turns human beings into military accouterments. How would you like to live this way? Communism can be stopped if it is nipped in the bud. I am not for the proliferation of the war, but I think that we must hold our ground there until there is an agreement reached in Paris, or elsewhere. Otherwise, Communism will be directly aiming (Continued from page 3i Pioneer Team To Appear Saturday On \It's Academic\ i»2 M Shown above, left to right, are Richard Graliam, James Armstrong, Joseph Rcisdorf, Jr and Stephen Clinton.
