Arastroag, MkfeMl CoKms, fctfwm t. \Buzz\ AJktda, Jr. Letchworth Board of Education \Holds Organization Meeting ' The organization meeting of the Board of Education of Letchworth Central School District was held in the board room at the Gainesville Junior-Senior High School Monday evening, July 1 '4. Reelected as president of the board for the school year 1969-70 was Urlin Broughton of Lamont Maynard Rogers of Silver Springs was elected vice president Kenneth Marley, also a member of the board, was appointed clerk of the board and district for 1969:70. , Other districtiofQcials appointed by the Board of Education for the school year 1969-1970 were Robert Humphrey of Silver Springs, treasurer; Sheldon Moden of Bliss, collector, and Dr. Fritz Dreyfuss of Gainesville, school physician. Also appointed at this meeting were Mrs. Mary Fish, the district school nurse, as census taker and Frank Granger of Silver Springs as attendance-officer. The Board of Education determined . its meeting night for 1969-1970 to be on the second Monday of each month with additional meetings to be held on the fourth Monday of each month as necessary. Arcade Electric Plant Honored SANDUSKY RECREATION AREA PROGRESSING Plans are underway for a new community park and recreation area in Sandusky. A citizens committee led by Elwyn Moore is currently clearing brush, building access roads, and will soon regrade the area. This expanded park and recreation area, when completed, will provide facilities for little league baseball, soft ball, tennis, horseshoes and other field games. Also planned are a picnic area, a small ski slope, and an outdoor ice skating rink. This citizens committee is receiving technical assistance through the Seneca Trail Resource Conservation and Development Project. Assistance in overall planning of the area as well as detailed engineering assistance in the layout of and installation of drainage systems and land leveling is being provided by technicians of the U.S. Soil Conservation Service at EUicottville and Little Valley. (continued page 2) PLANS FOR ARCADE SENIOR CITIZENS The Arcade Senior Citizens will meet Friday, July 25 at 12:30 for a dessert luncheon at the Arcade Village Park. In case of rain the meeting will be held at the Municipal Building. Each person attending is requested to bring sandwiches and table service. The hosts will furnish dessert and beverage. . Reservations for the Mormon Pageant at Palmyra on Wednesday, July 30 may be made by calling 492-3688,492-2406 or 492^*296. Have You Moved? If you have moved since you last registered, your registration to vote has been cancelled and you must register again. In Wyoming County, you may do this any working day at the Board of Elections in Warsaw, up until September I, 1969 or at local registration in your election district You will not be able to vote in November unless you are registered. By A.P.P.A. The June number of Public Power magazine, in reporting on the American Public Power Association's .annual safety contest during its conference in Washington, D. C, reported that three municipal electric Splints in New York State received honorable mention. These included RockvQle Centre, Skaneateles and the Village of Arcade. This safety contest covered many hundreds of municipal electric plants from coast to coast, including over 50 in New York State. The Arcade municipal electric plant, its superintendent, safety committee and t employees deserve our highest commendations. Pioneer Board Meets ^ Jack Marsh of Yorkshire has been reelected president of the Pioneer Central School Board of Education for the year 1969-70. Serving as vice president, also a reelection, will be Joseph Reisdorf of Curriers. All other major officers remain the same with the exception of tax collector, who is as yet unnamed. Applications are being accepted for the post at the business office -of Pioneer in the Arcade building. Applicants should be district residents. Collections shall be made of taxes this coming year only by person at the Arcade or Delevan branch of Citizens Central or by mail. In the past, tax collectors have been subject to home collections which disorganized time schedules. Payments in the future may be made only according toj specified hours and dates which shall be printed upon the tax notice that the taxpayer receives. Appointed clerk of the board was Charles Newman; assistant clerk, Ruth Stevens; treasurer, Margaret Altmann; attorney, Milford Newman; auditor, Mahaney & Co.; doctors, John Anderson and Gerard Diesfeld; dentists, Richard Brink, Donald Watkins and George Evans; census takers, Naomi Baker, Dale Easterly and Robert Owns. Designated as bank depository for Pioneer Central School is the Citizens Central Bank; purchasing agent, C. Eugene Edwards and SupL George C. Crawford; central treasurer of extra-classroom fund, Robert McGowan; comptroller of extra-dassroom fund, William O'Connell and Raymond GarJapo; person to certify payroll, C. Eugene Edwards; official newspapers, Tri-County Times and NewsTime; BOCES representative, Willis Andrews; executive committee member of BOCES School Boards Association, Claris Persons. The regular meeting night of the board will be continued as the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 8 p.m. President Marsh appointed James Blizzard and Louis Fulkerso'n to serve on a Title I advisory committee. Elementary principal Charles Perks is chairman of this group and is coordinator of Title I for Pioneer Central. Although our policy is to print local news and events, we feel this historic occasion must be commemorated with the thanks and admiration- of the Tri-County area residents to not only the remarkable Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins, but also to the r tens .of thousands of companies, scientists and workers who hive labored on this project and to every citizen whose tax dollars made this tremendous feat possible. We're proud to have many local Mrs. Jane McArthur Again Heads Holland Board . Mrs. Jane McArthur was re-elected president of the Board of Education of the Holland Central School for-the 1969-70 school year at the recent organization meeting of the board. Mrs. McArthur, who is a member of the personnel staff at Fisher-Price, was elected to the Board in 1967. She served as president of the board during the 1968^69 school year also. At the school district meeting on July 9. Alfred Kalinowski was re-elected a member of the Board of Education for the second term. Mr. Kalinowski, who is employed at Moog Valve Inc., is also serving as justice of the peace in the Town of Colden. Hill Resigns Gerald Ackley, president of Cattaraugus County Extension Association announced that Daniel Hill, Cooperative Extension Agent has resigned his county position to attend the_ University of- Missouri in Columbia, Mo. Mr. Hill came to Extension after teaching vocational agriculture and has been employed in Cattaraugus County for 11 years. He plans to study for a Master's Degree and return to New York State Extension July 1, 1970. Mr. Ackley said that Mr. Hill and family will leave for Missouri August 30. Third Member Of Family Dies «, Word has been received of the death Monday of George C. Greatwood Jr., age 15. George, with all the' members of the Greatwood family, was critically burned several weeks ago in an explosion in Cimarron, New Mexico. His father and one of his sisters also succumbed, leaving only the mother and one sister. The remains are being flown back to \the W.S. Davis, Inc. funeral home in Arcade, pending future funeral arrangements. companies represent the-Tri-County community with their direct contributions to the developmerit of space exploration leading directly to ~ the successful Moon Walk. It's wonderful to\ feel we are all a part of space pioneering and to know that great and courageous men have the humbleness to rum to prayer for guidance and strength when venturing into the great unknown. Congratulations, Astronauts! Congratulations, America! A Fond Farewell To Dr. Strong Holland's loss is Springville's gain. For 23 years, Dr. Clinton Strong has devoted himself to the health and well-being of the people of Holland and the surrounding area. His departure will leave a gap which will be difficult to fill. Through the years, there are many who have much for which to thank him. On call at all hours, willingly making house calls, never denying anyone his services, he is a man of whom Holland is justly proud. His and Mrs. Strong's devotion to the community has been expressed in many forms. As a family, they have contributed a great, deal to the progress of their town and county. Dr. Strong is secretary of the Erie County Academy of General Practice; a director of the Kiwanis Club of Holland; a member of the Masonic Lodge and of the Rod Sc. Gun Club, and was active in the Chaffee Memorial Hospital drive. He and Mrs. Strong have participated in the activities of the American Field Service, and Mrs. Strong has been a member of the Holland Garden Club and the Femleaf Reading Club. Mrs. Strong ( also participated in the Philharmonic drive.. Dr. and MrsI Strong, with their son Douglas, will be deeply missed as neighbors, as community leaders and as friends. Springvillc may well count its blessings.
