Route 16 Association To Push Expressway ITS BEEN A WET JUNE AND JULY. The footings of this bridge on Route 39, Schutt Rd., Sardinia, were washed out by the flood waters of Hosmer Creek, making it unsafe for traffic. This is one of many problems created by flood waters in our area. Holland . Central Elementary . Building (See picture on page 8)' The fust wing of the Harold 0. Brumstcd Elementary School at Holland was built in 1960 and a second wing which more than doubled its pupil capacity was constructed in 1964. (See picture on another page of this issue.) When school opens in September, 850 pupils will be enrolled in this building. The enrollment of the Holland Central School has been growing at the rate of 100 pupils per year for the past several years. It is expected that the total enrollment will exceed 1700 when school opens in bcr Financed by the FcBeral Education Act, a summer school is being operated this summer for elementary pupils who are in need of special . help, particularly in reading. Approximately 180 pupils arc in attendance Also there is a class foi pre-schoo! children sponsored by»^ Head Start These children will be in kindergarten next year George Weisscnbcrger is the new elementary principal of the Holland Central School. He came from the elementary school of the Honcoye Central School. He assumed his new duties as elementary principal at Holland on July 1 Scptcrribc Delevan Recreation Pet Show Planned Pioneer Central Mothers Club With the merger of the Delcvan-Machias and Arcade schools, the Pre-School Mothers Club will now be known as Pioneer Central School Pre-School Mothers Club. Officers have been elected and will assume their duties at the first meeting of the group in September They are Mrs. William Lambert, Dctcvan. president, Mrs. Jon Coloross, Arcade, vice president, Mrs. William Jackson Yorkshire secretary, Mrs. Richard Post, Arcade, corresponding secretary. Mrs. Dale Watson. Delevan, treasurer Miss Carol Lis, director of the Summer Recreation ^.program in Delevan has announced that the youngsters will stage a pet show at the Community Park at 9 a.m Friday Each child is responsible for his pet and must arrange for someone to pick up the animal between 11 a.m and noon. ( , The group is planning a \Christmas in July\ party for Friday. July 25 Dunng next week, the children will make gifts and decorations, plan games and decorate a real live Christmas tree for the party Names will be drawn and gifts exchanged. This should prove to be a great deal of fun Mike Dugan's Midgets defeated the Sandusky Midgets Monday night, 10 to 2. Tonight (Thursday) at 6 p m. The official acceptance and dedication Of a formal Route 16 Association took place at the Crystal Inn, Arcade, Wednesday night, July 9. The dining room was filled to capacity with interested citizens, civic leaders and public officials of Erie, Wyoming and Cattaraugus Counties, including State Senator Jess Present of Jamestown and Assemblyman Lloyd Russell of East Otto. \The Route 16 Association is patterned after the very successful Route 17 Organization,\ says Chairman James Pritchard, Mayor of Frankunville, who with Franklinvilic Chamber of Commerce President Fred Zucch, have spearheaded the forming of this group and scheduled the meetings. The first took place in Franklinvilic earlier this spring. Two directors from each of the five Chambers of Commerce along Route 16 and three dircctors-at-large were chosen. The active Chamber of Commerce associations arc East Aurora, represented by Mayor Forrest Cainc and businessman John Doyle (Seaman, Hood and Morcy). Arcade, Ward Mayer, Citizens Central Bank and Robert Brass, Arcade Super Dupcr Cuba. Anthony O'Dcll. Acme Electric and Lawrence Dye, insurance agent; Olean, Harry Leichtweis, 205 South 8th St. and Richard Hart, Nolan Drive, Allegany, and Franklinvilic Mr Pritchard asserts, \The only objective of the new association is to extend the present East Aurora Expressway from South Wales to the Southern Tier Expressway at Maplehurst, a distance of 30 odd miles.\ Furthermore. 'The Association will not DC concerned as to the location of the expressway nor where interchanges will be built.\ continues Mr Pritchard Supervisor Hughson Case, Chairman of the Cattaraugus County Board of Supervisors, read a resolution which has been adopted by that board in support of this project. The Erie County legislators also have passed on this motion. Assemblyman Lloyd Russell and Senator Present spoke in favor of the program and pledged their support. The next meeting will be held at the Harrington House in East Aurora July 23. A time schedule slating November 15 as the deadline to have all materials ready for New York State legislators to present for 1970 has been set At a picnic and meeting at the Village Park on Sunday, members of the Wyoming Valley Region' of the AACA were guests of the Seneca Antique Car Club. The public took advantage of. an invitation extended to view the cars and there was ait excellent turnout. The picture at the left shows the 1935 Ford phaeton of John Bay of Arcade, which he restored himself. The car in the center is\~tne^l927 Oakland belonging - t o Harry Swcethcimer of Warsaw, who purchased it from the Gertis family of Arcade several years ago. Mr. Swcethcimer\ is president of the Wyoming Valley Region of the AACA. The car on the right is the 1936 Plymouth 4-door of William lowlcr of Bliss, who handled the arrangements for the meeting. He restored the car himself.
