Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Schuts and family have moved to the J. E. Lyon house on Reed street. The Pea Vinery near the Fair Grounds opened last Friday and a large crop is anticipated. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Brown of Prattsburg, a daughter, in the Bath hospital, Tuesday June 30th., name Beverly Ann. Old leaky oil drums wanted for the intake to the n ew swimm ing pool near the Fair Grounds. Phone J. C. Bolles if you have one to donate and he w ill have it picked- up. Of the various ways to oook fish, frying is the most difficult, leading hotel chefs, say, because it drys the natural flavor. They recommend broiled, baited or boiled' fish. The Naples branch of the Am erican Red Cross has received a letter of congratulations upon the outstanding work done during the recent war fund drive; also a cer tificate of merit which reads as follows: “This certificate is awarded to the Naples Branch in recognition of valued service rendered during the w a r fund campaign of 1941-42. By the American National Red Cross. Norman H. Davis.” Through the efforts of the vil lage fathers, a public swimming pool is being built near the Fair Grounds. Work was started • week and is nearing completion. The pool will be 9 feet deep at one end and gradually reduce to the depths of 2 feet. The pool m so constructed that the high waters from the creek cannot overflow or wash it out. The plan is to have picnic tables, and bath houses in the future. A surprise party was given to Miss Marie Maslowsky last Wed nesday night by Mrs. William Shiauglhryessy and Mrs. John M. Vierhile ait the home of Mrs. Shaughnessy. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Konz, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Reifer, Mr. and Mrs. James Reed, Catherine Rie- senbefger, Miss Eleanor Cleve land, Miss Anna Snitzler, Mrs. John Eckert, Mr. William Ben jamin, Mr. Shaughnessy and Mr. Vierhile. On Thursday evening, Miss Cleveland entertained in her honor. Workmen at Bath Fair Grounds completed a new stage for grand stand attractions at the Steuben county fair, 50 feet square, con structed on wheels, and’ movable into place on the race track in 5 minutes. So far as is known this is the only movable stage on a County Flair Ground. It replaces the old permanent stage and portable stage that required con siderable time and a large corps of men to erect on the race track after the raoes and had to be taken down and packed away each night after the Grandstand shjow. LeToumeau Christian Camp on the east shore of Canandaigua La Ice, will open on July 4th, which has been designated as “American Victory Day.” It is expected that 2600 young people will be entertained a t the camp during July and August. Camp, conducted by Interstate Evangelistic Associa tion, is splendidly equipped for the spiritual and physical re freshment of all so fortunate as to be able to spend a part of the -j Summer, there. Casual visitors I from this immediate area have : been amazed by the rapid devel- i opment of the camp, to which many new biflLd&ngg have been added from year to year, until it now offers many fine cabins, guest houses, dormitory tents, a large dining hall and a new' recreation hall. The Cohocton School district voted last week to centralize. This injury can be prevented if the bugs are combatted now, while they are first beginning to find squash plant* The simp-' lest treatment for the squMtf bug' is to j&ace a shingle like board- at the base of each plant. The bugs will hide under it at night and they can be destroyed there read ily if the boards are examined, early, each morning before the bugs begin moving about to feed. When trapping under Boards is not practiced insecticides may be used. The young grayish bugs will hatch out of tl>e varnish Cjilfi ored eggs which the old bugs will soon begin to lay on the under side of the leaves. To kin tihogg young bugs, the- gardener must use a pyrethrum dust, or a nico tine spray prepared by mining four teaspoonfuls of nicotine- sul fate plus a small handful of soap chips in one gallon of water. The bodies of the bugs must be well coated with the dust or well- wet ted with the spray in order to be killed.
