Ridge Road. Cardillo began her career at the Marriott in 1984 as a corporate sales manager and was pro- moted two years later to director of sales and marketing. \1 love it. It's infectious,\ she said. \I can't think of a better industry to be involved in.\ A graduate of Fairport High School, Cardillo attended the SUNY College at Contland, where she intended to be involved in physical education. Instead, she left with a bachelor's degree in soci- ology. Cardillo moved to Houston and began her career working as a wholesale tool supplier. This newspaper is pried on recycled newsprint For the birds ENVIRONMENT Greece prepares f - There's still time to get involved in the town's fourth annual effort to keep Greece beautiful. \Spruce Up Greece,\ the annual cleanup campaign sponsored by the Greece Chamber of Commerce, begins Saturday and will run until May 6. To date, nearly 1,700 people have signed up to participate. The event is a jumpoff point for the town's department of public works' regular cleanup season, \Spruce Up Greece\ committee. mem- ber Jerry Santangelo of the DPW said. Community groups and neighbors pick up trash around schools, churches, parks, and roadways. Last year, more than 1,000 people picked up 5,000 pounds of garbage. GREECE-NEW York @\ PEOPLE Hall of ANALYSIS Fame adds 12 Teens honored for service A record number of nominations has produced a record number of (oe iy: inductees for this year's Greece Youth Hail of Fame. Twelve local teens earned induc- ton this year. The awards committee chose this year's winners based on leadership, volunte¢r contributions, and excep- tional personal achievement. Spe- cial consideration was given to those who have overcome a life challenge or personal tragedy. The Greece Chamber of Com- merce, Greece school district, and the town's department of human services announced the winners' names this week. The winners will be honored at a ceremony and reception at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, at Greece Town Hall and will have their pictures on display there for the next year. Rochester Mayor William Johnson and County Executive John Doyle publicly debated the merits of metro government on a local radio show last week. In doing so, they made metro government a public issue. Locally, this would have a significant impact on government service. And local officials are already beginning to dis- cuss how it would affect the average taxpayer. Metro defined Loosely defined, metro government means that all municipal governments in Monroe County would be consolidated. The consolidation would create a countywide government that would bring together City Hall, town and village boards, police forces, and possibly school districts. Instead of a Greece highway department or a Greece police department, residents would have to go to a county agency for help. As a result, some local officials say a full-scale despite its obvious economic benefits. \I oppose metropolitan government,\ Supervisor Roger Boily said. \Large government is not as close to the people. The diversity of a county of this size would hurt us here.\ An informal poll of shoppers at Greece Ridge Center mall on Friday indicated that most local res- idents are not familiar with the concept of metro government. But those who are familiar with it appear to have strong opinions about whether the county should consolidating local municipal government into a bigger metro system. \I'm for it,\ Gates resident Karl Heinz Reich said. \I think it will save a lot of money. The athletically built and hardly gray Ruff has been volunteering at Westridge since he retited from his engineering job at Xerox two yeas ago. He transports senior citizens to appoint- ments and activities, makes frequent phone calls to the lonely, and works the desk at Westridge three days a week. When he passed away, Ruff said it was difficult to see him go. \ was bard,\ he said. \(But) there was the satisfaction that I did for him what f could.\ Ruff spends time volunteering with Oper- ation Call-in. calling about 20 elderly peo- ple a week to help brighten up their day.
