H so, the Saivation Army or the United States Marine Base on St . Paul St,, will see that the toys are routed to the right place. It originally was thought thatthe width of the right of way was sufficlent to make of billboards pointless. But the advertisers came up with jumba-sized billboards which can be seen from 1,000 to 2,000 feet from thatmdway. Needless to say, the effect # these glant signs is horrendous The government now is mov- ing to force the signs back to as far as 4,000 feet, but it will be several years before such a law can have effect. In the meantime, there are Indications | that the sign builders will embark on a crash program to construct masses of signs before the law begins work. _ Once the bilfboards are in- stalled - B# is virtually imposgible to force their re» moval. Because of this, it appears that pressure from the buying public is the only thing that will force dollar-happy cor- porations to refuse to use the signs.
