After seeing the Brighton Barons squsd roll over the Dutchtown Merchants 20-0 for runner-up honors, the Charg- ers and Bombers assembled oa a field smothered with a sea of muyd. The VC of R grid- tron bad already seared its toll of punishment from a week of rain and snow topped with the U of R's last season game Saturday, and its gooey Sur- face didn't allow the Pop War- cer juniors to display their true atfiities. Greece won the toss and elected to receive. The first quarter was domirated by Greeca as they cortrolled the tall most of the period. The first tUme ER bad the ball they were perailized a total of 35 yards. The second quarter was again @omitnated by Greeceand again the Bomb» ers were pesslized a total of £0 yards. With the help of two penal- from center on fourth down, Greece tock over the ball on the Bombers' 20 yard line, completed a pass for the first TD of the game, and topped It with another pass play for the extra point. After 2n inspiring talk by Coach Ron Scufka at halftime, the Rombers were determined to win the ball game. In the third period ER moved the ball consistently, but due to miscues they could only pene- trate to the Chargers' 40. In the fourth period the Bombers continued to move the ball. With the faking of Keith Cotronreo ard the beautiful run- ning of Larr Kicodomi, the Bombers - moved tke ball to the Greece 25, where they lost the ball on downs. After bolding the Chargers, the rogged ER defonse stopped Greoce from gotfing a purt off ard tock the ball on their 22. Then with only 55 seconds remaining in the game, Nico- demi fought over the Charger defense for the extra point to tie it up. with the game officially over, a sudden death was re- quired. According to loague rules play would continue until one team scored, but due to the condition of both the fleld ard a bunch of tired, mudcaked boys, the coaches and officials agreed to limit the overtime to five minutes. But the field had bad a hard da, too, and It allowed no fancy, footwork - or driving rushes. After five mirutes or frustrated mud-bathing, the juaior champions had to give up and settle for co-hoznors on the top shelf. Thus the season eaded. The first - year Bombers sport a 7-0-1 record, the Chargers posted only one loss in their season, ond now both teams share the honor of chasmplons of the Moros Coumty Pop Warner Leegce. Their empire style gowns were brown velvet with a scooped neckline and long sleeves. They carried arm boqiets of large bronze and yellow pom pom Chrysasthg- mums. The rew budget, which to- tals more than $88 million do:lars, is higher than in 1967 but the Cousty Administration was able to cut the tax rate, says County Manager Gordon . Howe, by extending the use of data processing and \by re- vising programs so as to qualify for more State and Federal financial ald.\ O particular interest to area residents Is the $600,000 which has been al- lotted to the gereral «Parks Development Capital Fund\ for each year from 1968 through 1973. Under such a capital furds project, money might well be available for the ac- . quisition of land for a new entrance to Powder Mill Park and other similar projects. Also asked for under the Capital Program is $450,000 for Olympic Swimming ~pools in 1968 and 1969. The *68 pool is designated for Church - ville and the 1969 pool is proposed for Seneca Park. However, the budget shows requests for a total of $40 million dollars in highway construction from 1970 through 1973. Since all county highways are located outside the City, a good por- tion of this total will have to be allocated to county routes in area towns. , County Manager Howe has qacmxed that «the County of seul Se a t 'Montge is the only malor urban county in the U.S. which has been able to reduce its tax rate for three consecutive years in a period of infla- tionary pressures and rising responsibilities.\ Further, Howe points out BRA DDOCKS CA TCH OCTOBER WINNER Josef Wagner, 107 Flower City Park was «n October winner in the cgenesee f ishing Contest.
