It is a huge 12-by-40-foot charcoal drawing by Augustus Jahn, initlally called \A Large Decorative Painting of War,\ but row krown as ''The Canadiens Opposite Lens.\ It is the final study for an oil painting of the same size which was rever completed It is ownsd by the Rt Hon. Vincent Massey, whose fore- sight in purchasing it some 80 years ago ensured the survival of a remarkable and unique work of art. The composition was con- coived by John when, with an honorary commission - ef major in the Overseas MI- tary Forces of Canada, he spert five months in 1918 on the Western Front in France.
