HONEOYE FALLS, N.Y. 35c copy THURSDA Y, OCTOBER 22, 1987 SIO.OOyear Betty Farron Democratic Candidate for Supervisor Betty Farron, Democra- tic candidiate for Supervisor of Lima, reeently announced her platform. \If elected, I will uphold and defend home rule law on property taxes,\ she said. Home rule law, she stated, is basic protection from excessive l<'1xation of property. The procedure of property taxation is protected by consti- tutionallaw. Ms. Farron said she would support the Grievance Board's suggestion to roll back the updated assessments until a public referendum can be held. \Property tax relief must be given to those on fixed incomes,\ she said. \We have several people in Lima with medical disabilities who require hardship exemptions to enable them to remain in their homes. They cannot withstand the burden levied by full-value assessment. \ She identified rising welfare costs and the quality of welfare services, solid waste disposal and jail overcrowding as the big county issues for 1988. As founder of Monroe County Foster Parents Council and a foster parent for many years, Ms. Farron feels she is well qualified to deal with the problem of welfare reform. With respect to jail overcrowding, she is in favor of house detention for victimless crimes and paying restitution for damages. To alleviate the solid waste problem, she favors source separation and r::cycling. 11lis is Ms. Farron's second bid for supervisor against incumbent Ronald Yorks, who is a Republican. Lima Fire Department Explores Dry Hydrants Lima Fire Department will explore the possibility of installing some dry hydrants in our fire district. Wet hydrants, which you are probably more familiar with, are those you find in cities and most v~lages. When opened up water flows under pressure to a pumper or a hose line. In contrast, dry hydrants have to be drafted from (water drawn up into it), by means of a pumper attached to it. Where ponds and streams are located, dry hydrants can be easily and permanently installed. Previously the onl y way to do this was with costly and extremely heavy cast iron pipe. Today, with the use of Schedule 40 PVC pipe, the job is much easier. PVC pipe, available in sizes two and one half inches to six inches, will provide a water transfer system of superior craftsmanship and reliability. Property owners and businesses can enjoy a sub- stantial reduction in fife DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME ENDS insurance rates because the insurance service office (ISO) will classify rural fire de- partments on a municipal scale provided they meet the municipal classification. Dry hydrants also provide areas with wet hydrants a second source of water in case the water flow is inadequate to contain a large fire. Dry hydrants can be used as a back-up to a wet hydrant system. In case of a water main break or failure of the system they could provide the nceded water to combat a fire. Next week: How we can vastly improve water flow and distribution with the use of large diameter hoses. Chargers Win All Three \C\ Team On Oct. 18 the HFL Chargers C team extended their record to 5 and 1 by beating a tough Red Raider team from Cal- Mum 32-6. Tadd Stacy opened the scoring with an 18 yard sweep around right end for the TD. In the second period Jon Belic caused a fumble which was . recovered by Trent Kattute to set up Stacy's second touchdown a 4 yard run up the middle. Later in the period Keith Foxton's hard tackling caused two fumbles. The second of which set up Stacy's third TD of the day, a 45 yard reverse. Just before the half, Joe Sacco's hard hit caused a fumble recovered by. Kahute which enabled Joe to break loose for a 22 yard touchdown sweep around left end. The third period was scoreless. But in the fourth period, after an extended drive led with hard running by QB Todd Lewis, Kyle Wolcott scored on a nifty two yard scamper. The first successful extra point of the day was scored by QB Lewis on a keeper. As usual the success of the backs was made possible by outstanding blocking by the line of Andy Dunham, Mike Francis, . Mike Parker, Jason Sahrle, Kenny Towner, John Bonadio and Jim Pribanich. Also tile notorious Four. Bangers of Matt McElduff, Josh Barcomb, Tom Baker and Matt Fetznerdid a good job of opening holes. The defense was tougher than usual with hard hitting and gang tackling causing five fumbles. Jason Sahrle was the leading tackler with four followed by Keith Foxton and Andy Dunham with three tackles and Jamie Miller, Jim Prabanich and Jon Belic with one each. The defense continues to improve each week and should be proud of the fact that only 18 points have been scored on them so far this season. This vie tory was truly a team effort and all the C team members should be proud of their progress this season. Keep up the good work Chargers. \B\ Team The Caledonia Mumford Raiders with a4-1 record came to town with strong hopes of defeating the 4-0-1 Chargers and vaulting over them into the race for first place in It!e \B\ division. The Raiders took the opening kickoff and mounted a sustained drive of ten plays taking the ball to the Chargers' 33 yard line, but the Chargers held and took over on their own 40 after throwing the Raiders for a seven yard lo~~. But the Chargers, on their s(,,cond play from scrimmage, fumbled and the Raiders recovered. Following a 7 yard run and an offside by the Chargers, the Raiders had a first down on the Chargers 33. The Chargers defense stiffened and in four plays, the Raiders lost 9 yards, the Chargers taking over on their own 42. The flfst quarter ended with the Chargers on the Raiders' 44 yard line. Starting the second quarter, the Chargers were only able to move the ball 13 yards and with a fourth and 9, Jamie Butler's pass to Tony Aloi fell incomplete, and the Raiders took over on downs. Neither team was able to sustain a drive and with 3: 10 remaining in the half, the Chargers took over with a first and ten' on the Raiders' 35. Following a 6 yard loss and two procedure penalties, it appeared that the Chargers' were once again to be stymied by the stubborn Raider defense. How- ever, on the next play from scrimmage, after appearing to be caught, Butler scampered around left end for a 65 yard run for the first Charger TD. The PAT run by Butler failed and the half ended with the Chargers leading 6-0. The second half started with the Raiders returning Berner's kickoff to their own 46 for a first and 10. Then the Charger defense led by Mike Meisenzahl and Marusiak held the Raiders and on fourlh down, Meisenzahl broke through and nailed the Raiders' punter for a 10 yard loss, giving the Charger~ a first down on the Raiders' 29.
