HONEOYE FALLS, N.Y. 35c eopy THURSDAY , MAY 28, 1987 SlO'()O year Four Vie for Three School Board Positions by Kevin Frisch On June 3, the residents of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District wiII have the opportunity to vote on the 1987-88 school budget and Capital Projects\ Bond Issue. Voters will also chose from four candidates to fill three three-year positions on the Honeoye Falls- Lima School Board. Sharon RouIc, Nallcy Spatorio and President Joseph Bellanca are stepping down as board members. Ken Benson, Gary Palmer, Stephen Plavcan and write-in candidate Richard Jarrett are vying for the openings. Each has different qualifications and different reasons for seeking a position on the school board. Mr. Palmer, 1883 Eastwood Drive, Lima, is a production maintenance department head at Pennwalt Corporation, Jefferson Road, Rochester. He has been a resident of the Honeoye Falls-Lima school district for 17 years and has been involved with the PTA for 11 years. His daughter is a sophomore at the Honeoye Falls- Lima Central School. \I wanted to get Concrete Truck Hits Bridge, Overturns involved,\ said Mr. Palmer, \and the best way to get involved is to participate in the system. You can stand in the street and yell and scream all you want, but if you want to see some changes you should get involved. If you want to be heard, you should get involved. If you're that concerned, you should get On Tuesday May 26, a one car accident occured on Rte. IS in the town of Avon. Injured in the accident was Larry J. Wallace nge 39' of 2204 Michigan Ave. Lima. Wallace, who works for Lakeland Concrete Products of E. Main Rd. Lima, was driving southbound on Rte 15. when he hit the bottom of the railroad bridge that gocs over IS, with the boom on the truck. Ken Benson, 6608 Main Road is a farmer who owns Ken Benson Backhoe Service and Ken Benson White Farm Equipment He has six children, all of whom have graduated from the Honeoye Falls-Lima school system. He has previously served six years on the Honeoye Falls- Lima School Board. ''I'd like to sce some good education, a pay-as-you-go situation and the budget held in better perspective,\ said Mr. Benson. \I was pretty much in favor of the budget before I heard Bob Moorhead (Assistant Superintendent of the Honeoye Falls-Lima Central Schools) speak at the Rotary Club meeting last Thursday (May 21). According to him, the enrollment picture doesn't look that great. It's dropped from over 2300 in the seventies to less than 1900 now. I don't think the public's been made aware of the diminishing enrollment.\ Mr. Benson said he has . been approached by several senior citizens in the community. \Nobody seems to worry about the senior citizens. Haley Mr. Benson was careful to stress, however, that if the Capital Projects Bond Issue is passed, and he is elected, he would see that the funds are put to good use. \If the taxpayers vote it in,\ he said, ''I'll see to it KEN BENSON GARY PALMER it's spent wisely.\ Stephen Plavcan lives at 2019 Lake Avenue, Limn, where he owns and operates the · Lima Florist and Greenhouses. A 1966 graduate of Cornell University, he taught in Buffalo from 1967-1970 and later at Alfred College. He helped found and served on the Genesee Valley Rural Preservation in 1980 and was President of the Lima Rotary Club in 1985-86~ He has four children in the Honeoye Falls-Lima school system. \I hope to spend a couple of productive years learning about and helping the Honeoye Falls-Lima School Board of Directors,\ said Mr. · Plavcan. \I'm not out to grind · any axes, I just want to give input and learn.\ Regarding the Bond · Issue, Mr. Plavcan said, \Work should be done and it's probably time to do it It's up to the individuals - whether or not they feel the time is now.\ Mr. Richard Jarrett is· the write-in candidate for the RICHARD JARRETT STEPHEN PLA VCAN Honeoye Falls-Lima School Board. \I didn't know nbout the openings soon enough to beat the deadline,\ he explained. A resident of 125 Pond Road, Honeoye Falls, Mr. Jarrett is vice president of marketing sales for Milton Roy Analytical Products Division in Rochester. He has lived in Honeoye Falls for just over one year and has two sons who attend the Honeoye Falls-Lima High School. Mr. Jarrett is running for a school board position \to make sure the quality of · education is not diminished in the schools,\ he said. \It will allow me different ways to improve communications in the community.\ Mr. Jarrett is in favor of the Bond Issue. His press release · stales: \As a business manager in toelay's economy, Jarrett knows how to get rue most out of every tax dollar spent\ He said he plans to attend the school · board meetings even if he is not · elected.
