About twenty of the young friends ot Miss Elizabeth Remington made ber a pleasant surprise at the home of ber grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Washburn, Tuesday evening. The event was a very enjoyable oc casion for Miss Elizabeth and her old time friends. The evening was passed with games, the guests carried refreshments and everything passed off as merry as a marriage feast. John Duschen was several years old Tuesday and that he might not forget bis anniversary, Mrs. Duschen invit ed several of bis male friends to spend tbe evening, unbeknown to John. The surprise was complete, bnt John rallied nicely from tbe shock and helped entertain his guests in a royal manner. The evening was very pleasantly spent with cards, Mrs. Duschen had prepared ample refreshments and taken ^ftogether John's anniversary was fittingly oelebrated. Tbe guests presented him with a handsome electric lamp ir memory of the occasion. Will Be Buried Here. Mrs. James Conroy, aged about 70 years, a sister of Frank Baker of Sil ver Springs, died at her borne in Perry Wednesday morning. The fun erai will be held at St Joseph's church i n Perry Saturday morning at 10 o'clock and tbe remains will be brought here for burial in St. Mary's oemetery. Mr. Conroy is seotion foreman of the B. R. & P. at Perry and has been, in tbe employ of that road for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Conroy were residents of Gainesville for several years and old friends in this township will regret to hear of her death. . / Coming January 11th. Dr. C. S. He was born at 8ilver Lake, Pa., in 1838 and for over 60 yoars was con nected witb tbe Erie railroad. For many years he was track supervisor from Buffalo to Hornell. Tbe farm dwelling house on the Henry Phillips place, three miles north east of Perry,-was totally des troyed by fire early Saturday morrilng during the high wind and snow Btorm. The fire bad got a good start before Mr. and Mrs. Phillips were awakened. Two of the children jumped from tbe bedroom windows on tbe second floor and ran to a ueigbbors before their absence was noticed. On account of the heavy blanket of snow, tbe other buildings were saved. Tbe loss i s abont |4,000 partially covered by insurance.
