With the Commencement exer c j ses Tuesday evening another „ ear 's work of the Silver Springs High School passed into history. While tbe school year proper closed Friday, wben the examinations ff ere concluded, this week has been one of activity with the grade and commencement exercises and the awarding of tbe diplomas. Monday evening, the grade ex ercises were held at Denton's Hail and a large crowd was in attend ance. The hall was prettily decor ated and tbe program greatly en joyea. Hollister of Perry died Saturday, aged 46 years. H Ardell Burns and Mrs. Emma Adams of Perry were married June 9th. Miss Ina E. Dolan of Nunda and John E. Hantz of Rochester were married last Wednesday. The Nunda village tax rate Is $14 49 on a thousand with an ad ditional tax of $2 41 for sprinkling Mrs. Catherine Perry, widow of John Perry of North Java, died last Wednesday afternoon, aged 74 years. Mrs. Ohauncy Eddy of North Wethersfield died June 10th, aged 81 years. She bad been an invalid for several years Edgar R. Ward of Varysburg died at the German Deaconess Hospital in Buffalo, June 13tb, following an operation. He was 50 years old. Prank D. Sedoro, aged 72 years, died at bis home at Silver Lake As 8embly last Wednesday. He had conducted a boat livery at the lake for many years. James Iketer and Ransom Wol cott of Hermitage have purchased over 200 acres of choice timber land of the Darfee estate, located at Dur fee's Corners, In tbe town of Orange ville. Roy M. Craw, formerly a resident of Perry, wnB drowned at Warren, Pa , Friday, and the remains were brought to Perry for burial He was a son of Mrs Fred Gray of Av on Park, Florida. Henry Beaoh Needham, the war correspondent, who was killed by a fall from an aeroplane in France last week, was born in Castile August 10, 1871. He was a son of Charles W Neadbam, former president of the George Washington University. Tbe deceased leaves a widow wbo lives in Grand Rapids, Micb. Mrs Lloyd Burlingame, wbo has been spending several years in Manil la, P I , since ber marriage, arrived on June 12th at San Francisco and is expected to arrive as soon as pos sible at the home of her parents, Mr and Mrs G. W. Beardsley, west of the village. Mrs Burlingame bas been in poor health for some time past and was obliged to return to this country.—Perry Record. Grateful. Miller of Buffalo, indicted for conspiracy in the burning of the buildings of the Warsaw Blue stone company near Rock Glen in February, 1914. It is thought tbe case will not be con eluded before today. District At torney M. I_. Coleman Is conduct ing the prosecution and Henry W Killeen of Buffalo and Assembly man John Knight are defending Mr. Miller. The Cherry Beetle. A small bug known as the \cher ry leaf beetle\ a red insect with wings, has made its appearance quite extensively in this section and is working on the under side of cherry and plum trees. It feeds on tbe leaves and if not fought it will eventually kill the trees. The in sect is related to tbe elm leaf beetle that has caused so much trouble during the past few years. Farm Bureau Agent H. M. Bow en is authority for the information that the best remedy to kill the beetles is to take a teaspoonful of nicotine to a pailful of strong soap suds and spray the trees thorough ly. He says an arsenate of lead spray advised by some authorities will not' kill the beetles. HKWITT-OAKKS. Under an arch of green and white the weddiug of Miss Blanche Lorain Oakes and Arthur Ward Hewitt was solemnized on Tuesday afternoon at the home of the bride on Pine street. Herbert Hewitt, brother of the groom, acted as best man, and Miss Marie, sister of the bride,, was bridesmaid. The wedding was very informal, being witnessed only by the im mediate relatives of the contracting parties. Following the ceremony which was conducted by the Rev. Robert G. Hlglnbothntn of the First Presbyterian church, came the dinner and social hour until the departure of the newly wedded couple. After their return they will be at home at 32 Bine street where their home is being furuished and pre pared for them. A host of friends extend their best wishes to these two young people for a long and happy life. Out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Chas. They will reside in War saw. Congratulations. OAK HILL. Runaway. While E. W. Christian of Gaines ville was driving through the village about 10 o'clock Tuesday nigbt, his horse became frightened near J. A, Kennedy's residence. It ran into tbe yard near Mra, Monroe's double house, when the buggy ran straddle of a tree and was stripped from the horse. Mr. 'Christian clung to the animal for a time, bnt finally gave np and tbe horse ran to it* home near Gainesville. Neither horse nor driver were injured. W. C. T. U. A Tegular meeting of the W. 0 T. All of the students who had studied elementary algebra the re quired length of time were allowed to try the Regents' examinations. Out of a class of about seventy-five there were only eight wbo passed.
