PAGE 20 PRESS-REPUBLICAN SPORTS TUESDAY, DECEMBER 26, J095 Rice named to Lions' WR Moore selected for first time SPORTS SHORTS By BARRY WILNER AP Football Writer NEW YORK - Perennial choice Jerry Rice and three San Francisco defenders headline the 1995 Associated Press All-Pro Team announced Monday. Rice, the record-breaking wide receiver, received 72 votes in balloting by a nationwide panel of &8 sports writers and broad- casters. It is the ninth time since 1986 that Rice has made the team. His partner at receiver, Her- man Moore of Detroit, is making his All-Pro debut. The fifth-year receiver also got 72 votes after surpassing the previous NFL re- cord for receptions, making 123 for 1,686 yards. \It means a lot,\ said Moore, who along with Rice beat out a strong group in the year of the receiver. \There are a lot of things that are stacked against you in this league, because there is so much talent. \Every year, I get better and better. I'm a young player, still. I just turned 26. There are a lot-of things yet to be seen from me, I think.\ The other 49ers on the team are linebacker Ken Norton, safe- ty Merton Hanks and cornerback Eric Davis. Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre led all players with 86 votes. Favre, having by far the best season of his career, threw for a league-best 4,413 yards and 38 touchdowns. \It's something I'll cherish for a long time, regardless if this is the only award or honor I get,\ Favre said. \If you think about the players in this league, the guys you're competing against for those awards, then to be named is one heck of an honor. \ INSURANC AUIO MOM! Clinton gave me the opportunity to remain in the area and still explore new options. I am interested in a career as a physicians assistant and nursing will be a great stepping stone. I heard from a number of sources that Clinton's medical program was one of the best in the area and I thought this would be a good place to start.\ \I was apprehensive at first thinking about the daily grind, the tests, the books, but I find I'm much more focused and I'm generally doing very well in the program. And working with the younger students has been a great deal of fun. It's a great mix of youthful ideals and experience in the clasroom.\ \Who says we should only have one career in this life? Thomas Jefferson was a renaissance man who did lots of things. Russell Jones, will be too, thanks to Clinton Community College.\ It's never loo late to change your future!
