Only Whisk Brook II in 1913, Tom Fool in 1953, and Kelso in 1961 were able to win the Metropolitan, Suburban, and Brooklyn Handicaps before Fit To Fight, with Jerry Bailey at the reins, turned the trick. At IVi miles, the Brooklyn Han- dicap is the longest of the triple crown races, and Fit To Fight, leading virtually throughout on the sloppy track, clocked 2:27 2-5. Vision finished 5 lengths ahead of show horse Dew Line. Fit To Fight returned $3.40, $3.00 and $2.60, Vision collected $4.60 and $3.80, and Dew Line showed at $5.00. Life's Magic triumphs At Monmouth, heavy favorite Life's Magic won the $162,500 Monmouth Oaks for 3-year-old fillies Saturday. With Jorge Velasquez aboard, Life's Magic covered the IV$ miles in 1:50 to beat out Flippers and Cassowary. Life's Magic return- ed $3.00, $2.60 and $2.40, Flippers paid $5.00 and $4.00, and Cassowary collected $7.60. Saratoga Six wins by 4 At Hollywood Park, Saratoga Six overcame a slow start and raced to a 4-length victory Satur- day in the 26th running of the $108,500 Hollywood Juvenile Championship for the first rich return on her $2.2 million pur- chase price. But Cordero worked his mpunt slowly back to the pack and by the time the field of 11 turned into the stretch, Saratoga Six was challenging the pace-setting Seward Junction and the son of Alydar smoothly drew out in the final stages for the easy win. Ten Grand came from the mid- dle of the pack to take second place while the even-money favorite, Spectacular Love, was third. Saratoga Six was sent off at odds of 5-1 by the crowd of 30,000 and paid $13.20, $7.40 and $3.80. Ten Grand returned $7.00 and $4.40 while Spectacular Love paid $2.40. 'Threshold' in dead heat At Arlington Park, At The Threshold, the 2-5 favorite, and High Alexander, a 24-1 longshot, finished in a dead heat for the win Saturday in the $119,200 American Derby. High Alexander became the first Illinois-bred colt to take the American Derby, and it was the third straight victory for At The Threshold. Par Flite, who set the early pace, finished third, a half-length behind the winners in the field of seven.
