Monroe County postmen troubleshoot for elderly ROCHESTER, NY. (UPI) - Under a program that started this weekf letter carriers in Monroe County will do more than deliver the mail; they'll help make senior citizens — particularly those han- dicapped or living alone — feel safer in their homes. \ -—-The postmen will TodkTor signs of trouble, like accumulating mail, and alert a network to investigate if they find them. Participating seniors will be given yellow, rectangular decals to place on their mailboxes for the program, called \Postal Alert\. \If there's an accumulation of mail for one or two days, they'll notify the agency so we can check to see if the senior citizen is safe and in good condition or if he needs emergency help,\ Monroe County Manager Lucien A. Morin said Monday in announcing details of the plan. \We hope to make them feel more secure.\ Seniors must first fill out a registration form, which lists two pec- sons to be contacted in case, of a suspected emergency. When a mailman detects trouble, he'll contact the proper agency. If still not satisfied after contacting the persons listed, police have the power to break in.
