Alfred Racine, 47, of Edgewater Drive in Rouses Point, died on the highway from massive internal in- juries. About 1:5 a.m. a car made an il- legal U-turn into the lane of an ap- proaching tractor-trailer. The truck swerved to the right to avoid an ac- cident. But the truck drove off the road traveling 300 feet. As the truck tried to return to the road it over- turned spilling diesel fuel onto the highway and blocking three lanes. Unable to avoid a collision. Racine, who was also driving a large truck, smashed into the over- turned tractor-trailer. Racine was hauling a load of heavy machinery at the time of the accident. The im- pact of the crash sent the machinery toppling and pinning Racine. A third rig then struck the Racine rig. Mark Coon, 21, of Cassadaga and the driver of the overturned truck, received minor injuries. Bruce Brown of Calcium, the driver of the third truck, injured his left hand. Racine had been a truck driver for Smith Transport Ltd. of Champlain for the past 23 years. State police said the car making the illegal turn caused the accident.
