14 Press-Republican — Wednesday, March 21,1979 f Speak Oui/ a to have a few tests and he was interested in seeing how our baby was progressing. He altfo talked to the doctor and was in- formed about what to be prepared for. That made him decide to see the about right. The catch is, it gives the $50,000 a year family 15.000 or M.000 more than necessary. The point is that pay raises should be based on rs a year instead of per cents. e present system gives all the ad- h Wh d Do you ha ve a particular view on a subject — something you want to get off your chest? If you do, pick up the telephone and call Press- Republican's Speak Out at 561-3053. We'll publish all responsible comments, but limit them to 200 words. We won't use your name, but don'tslander or make accusations. for. That made p birth of our daughter which he said vantage to the rich. What do you was the unique experience of his think? life. However, on my regular appoint- ments, if he saw that the waiting room was too busy, he would either stand or wait outside. I think it is on- ly fair that other men should show the same considerations. Save energy Thanks My compliments and apprecia- tion to the Plattsburgh Fire Depart- ment and especially the emergency rescue. On the evening of February 22,1979,1 was unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident on South Catherine St. Immediate response and profes- sionalism by the personnel dispat- ched was more than commendable. After being freed from my automobile the same efficiency prevailed in treating my wounds enroute to the hospital. My heartfelt thanks to all involved. Devotion Yes, I was looking at the paper this morning, as usual, and was quite disappointed that the devotion wasn't in there. It isn't in there very only takes about an inch of space in the paper and it does kind of brighten your day if you feel low. I think it is important. After all there is a God that takes care of all of us and it wouldn't hurt the paper to give Him a little space. I wish you would put it in. A lot of us folks look for it and enjoy reading it. It helps the day. Close early My feelings are in reading the newspaper of March 17 in regard to closing of bars in downtown Platt- sburgh. I sometimes wonder why the poor people are not taking pro- per action, not only to close bars at a decent hour in downtown Platt- sburgh, but throughout the country, throughout New York State? Vandalism in downtown Platt- sburgh has increased so much in the past few years. Now, I know that is an industry. Bars are an industry. They want to make money. But why should we taxpayers subsidize them to make money? The streets are so messed up in the mornings in downtown Platt- sburgh that it is terrible. I think that anyone interested in reducing ac- cidents and reducing alcohol throughout the country should start doing something about it. Try it TV in the study halls? I can't believe that a parent suggested this. I go to the study hall to study. Yes. study! That woman who has been stuck in all winter with her children... and TV by choice. I say that she should shut off the television and do something with her children. Yes, children, pre-school, elementary and high school. I wonder how long it has been since she has gone out with her children to make a snowman, go sliding, snowball fight and the like? If she would turn off the TV she might find out that her children are very interesting young people to know, and have fun with, indoors and out. Try it Mom, you might like it and I know they would. Long waits Regarding the long wait in local doctors' offices. As a woman whose time is valuable, I would appreciate a call from my doctor's office postponing my appointment for a couple of hours. We need to let our doctors know how long we waited and that It is inctfrrV^ffiem and that a telephone call would be ap- propriate. Pay raises Considerations I would like to reply to the woman who stated that a gynecologist's of- fice is no place for a man. I disagree with her. When we were expecting I would like to make a suggestion on pay raises. When the cost of liv- ing for a family goes up $1,000 a year, it goes up for everyone. What is a pay adjustment? If the pay ad- justment is 10 per cent it gives the Th Our baby my husband came in with $10,000 a year family $1,000. That is PRICES EFFECTIVE THROUGH MAftCH 24,1979 Most stores are overheated. Customers ate dressed in coats and would be far more comfortable with lower temperatures. I resent sweltering in my coat while sales clerks wear flimsy blouses. I would_ appreciate it if they would put on a sweater and turn the thermostats down to 65. Businessmen, you will have happier customers who will stay in your stores longer. You will save money and much needed energy. It is the patriotic and sensi- ble thing to do. New In your neighborhood starching for th# grocery MAN ftAVMOND - PlATTMMtOM.
