PRISS-RfPUILICAN— MONDAY, NOVIMRER 21/1 Mi — - #% Gentile, Belinsky top list of diamond 'draftables COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Two of baseball's bad boys — first baseman Jim Gentile and pitcher Bo Belinsky — will be among players up for grabs Monday when the major league teams conduct their annual player draft. The Chicago Cubs, who fin- ished last in the National League, will make the first se- lection, followed by the New York Yankees, who brought up the rear of the American League. Gentile and Belinsky are among a group of some 25 big name players who have per- formed with considerable sue* cess in the majors in the past and might wind up getting an- other shot at a major league berth. Gentile, a 32-year-old left- handed swinger with 179 homers in a major league career span- ning parts of 10 seasons, played with Houston and Cleveland last year. He had been dealt away by the Astros after Manager Grady Hatton criticized his atti- tude. Belinsky, a 30-year-old left- hander who in a short major league fling with the California Angels pitched a no-hitter and passes at Hollywood starlets, pitched for Philadelphia last season. The Phillies farmed him out after be saw only limited action and proved ineffective. Gentile currently is on the roster of the Portland Pacific Coast League club, while Belin- sky is on the San Diego PCL roster. Either can be grabbed by a major league club for the established $23,000 draft price. The 20 major league clubs selected 23 players last year, laying out a total of 1473,000. In addition, minor league clubs drafted 41 players off lower classification teams for an addi- tloaai $88,000. The Baltimore Orioles last year picked up Moe Drabowsky, the veteran reliever who helped them to the American League pennant and then set a World Series strikeout record whUe winning the second game against Los Angeles. Among the other former ma- jor leaguers available for the $25,000 price this year are some seasoned pitchers — Art Mahaf- fey, Tracy Stallard, Ernie Broglio, Chuck Estrada, Ted Abernathy, Galen Cisco, Bob Sadowski and Dick Stigman. Also available are infielder Nate Oliver, who has had sever- al trials with the Dodgers, and two longtime veterans — catch- er Camilo Carreon, who last played for the Orioles, and in- fielder Gene Freese, who last played for the Chicago White Sox. While the draft is proceeding, the major league teams also are expected to begin to lay the groundwork for seme major trades that are anticipated when the scene shifts to Pitts- burgh later in the week for the annual major league meetings. ^y' ; % s*y*>*£ £ By TVS East Army 18, Navy 7 Holy Cross 32, Boaton CWL 3* Kings Point 48, Peon Mil 7 South Alabama 34, S, Mississippi 0 Clemson 35, S.
