Academy Team The Air Force Academy soc- cer tram advanced to the final round of the Far West division of play before being eliminated in the NCAA national soccer finals, One point kept the ambitious Falcons from gaining a berth in Cadet Raymond J. Bugleben the finals at Atlanta, Ga. San Jose State (Calif.) downed the scrappy \Cadets\ from Colorado, 1-0. Included in the Hne-up that booted the Falcons to a regular 9-2 season record, and an open- ing round victory in the play- offs over the University of Sain Francisco, 3-2, was Cadet Ray- mond J. Barleben, son of Mr. and Mrs, Wilbert E. Barleben of 343 North Avenue, Hilton. Air Force wins this season came against St. Benedict's of Atchinson, Kan., MIT, Coast Guard, Colorado College, Den- ver, Colorado State, Wyoming and Regis. The two losses were to the defending national co- champions, St, Louis University and Michigan State, Good team balance, combined with an aggressive offense and an alert defense were among the strong points which enabled Coach Hank Eichin's charges to post their best record, accumu- lating 40 goals in 11 games with an additional 26 assists, Cadet Barleben, a junior and starting defensive man for the Falcon soccer eleven this year, in addition to being a defensive standout was credited with five points; two goals and three as- sists. j The academy's inside right this year is a former Hilton High School basketball, track and soc cer standout., He was captain of the Academy's freshman soccer team and - earned - All-Rocky Mountain conference honors, Mr. and Mrs, C.
