On Monday the children of the Ontario County Orphan Asylum were entertained at the Masonic Temple, Geneva, by the Geneva Commandery, Knights Templar. This New Year’s Day entertainment for the orphan children has become an annual event with the Geneva Knights. While coasting on Bob Nick last night Miss Julia Peck, 18 year old, daughter of Emory Peck, of this vil lage, had a narrow escape from serious injury when the front of a sled coming down the hill struek hert fracturing a rib on her right side. Gordon Lewis informs • The Record that he has secured $255 to-i ward the furnishing of a room in Me morial Hospital, Canandaigua, by the citizens of Naples, The orginal mark set was for $300 and it is hoped that the additional $45 will soon be pledged. ---------- -o ---------- We must apologize for the press work on this issue of The Record. A new rubber blanket, supposed to he of the best quality, has just been installed on our newspaper press at considerable expense, and evMen&y it is not .of even thickness. It is causing us much trouble and delay, but will have to be used until anoth er can be obtained. ---------- o ---- — James Richards, aged 84 years, a brother of the late Mrs. Edmund C. Clarke, of this village, died on Janu ary 1st, 1923, at his home in Amity- ville, L. I. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Eleanor Wiley Richards; a son, James, Jr., and a sister, Mrs. Anna Richards Cummings, of Bath, England. The interment will take place at Poughkeepsie on Thursday. The Azuliket Club met with Mrs. W. G. Caton oij. Tuesday evening. Roll call was answered^ with Negro stories; paper, “ Life of Thomas N. Page,” Mrs. C. M. Crouch; reading, sketches from “In Old Virginia,” Mrs. May Corwin; reading, sketches from “ Uncle Remus,” Miss Mary Pierce. Ar.d, when the youngsters get a real good start, upon reaching the’ bottom t of the big hill they cross Elizabeth street, come down Cross and Mill streets, cross Main street and go down Mechanic street and East avenue. It looks like the godd old days of years ago, when the town pump had to be dodged on Elizabeth street at the head of Cross street. --------- rO ---------- We didn’t know whether the elec tric switch clock had stopped, or whether there was a short circuit somewhere, or whether the power plant had stopped business over at Homell, or whether it was; just be cause we now had a Democratic governor, but, anyway, Naples start ed 1923 without having any street lights New Year’s night. Early Tuesday morning the Martin boys were down from' Atlanta to • repair the trouble, and last night the lights shown forth as usual. Last Wednesday night and Thurs day Western New York was visited by one of the most severe snow storms in several years. In Roches ter 135 inches of snow fell, and in many other, sections* where, govem- ment records are not kept, there must have been fully as jnuch. While the fall was not quite so great in Naples, yet- there were several inches of snow here by Thursday evening. It has been, thawing a little for a couple of days, but there is still plenty of snow and the -sleighing is still good, especially on the improved highways.
