Wo wore awakened at an early hour Monday inorniug, by the thundering of the cannon, mid later, witjicRsed the many sports of the day and heard the exclamations of satisfac- tion, which go to prove, that our col- ebration was a success. Soon , after tho morning trains arrived our atroetfl were throngod with people, doubtless the lurgest crowi} that over visitod Hi. Regis. Falls. The main part of tho program was cur- ried out, to the satisfaction of all. tThe Oration by Prof. M. E. McClary wan an able address and INOH ap- preciated by Ml who heard it. The Horriblen, and Street Procession wero also satisfactory. The tug of war created a considerable excite- ment for a short time. Tho match game of base ball betweon the Law- reftoeville and Dickinson Centre, club* held tho undivided attention of tho crowd for- about two hourj, when the Dickinson Centre boys threw up tho game, the Lawrence: uliVs Had Ave innings and made #8 scores, tho Dickinson Centre'H iiad B\$ innings and made- 10 ncores. The boys in each club did exceedingly well considering tho roughness of the grounds. Tho \ running race between tho horses t>wnod by P. C McFarlane, J. Sween- . ey and D. Ghouney, was, without , $ doubt, the most exciting race of $he day. First money being . taken /by McFarlane, second money by v Sweeney. The foot race was a good race, some ten or twelve parties par- ticipating. First prize, won by Fr »d Catura, second prize by Hardy C a- tura. The Chariot race was also qui te an exciting race. First prize being xron by Alexander Raymo, second prize by E. Habin. And in fact each part ot the program was a repetition of pleasantrys, and we are happy to Report, we hod, for the number pres- ent, Uio most civil and orderly crowd that we have seen at any celebration iox a large number of years, no dis- turbance of any kind, except, throuj h Borne misunderstanding, one party -lost a portion of his oar. On the evening trains the greater ^portion of the crowd departed, foil- ing, we hope, fully satisfied that thoy came to celebrate the Nation's bir ii tlay atStRogis Falls. , During the day a few accidents oc- iBured to mar the pleasures, amoi g them was: Henry Miller, who beiig K in the procession' of Horribles, wis ' eo unfortunate, as to fall out of a wa, j- *>n and received a .severe bruise on the forehead and a deep gash the *rhole length of his upper lip. Dr. Atwater was called who took sever il *titches in the lip. ! 1 Anson Hutchins, while pulling on the tug of war, strained the cords of liia knee which will lay him up for several* days. Wto. Cilloy of Dickin- son Centre, while riding on a wagop fceariug the cannon and a little pow- der that remained after the day's sport, was shooting fire crackers, when some of the sparks fell into the powder exploding it almost di- rectly into hiihfaco, burning hit* face badly but wo understand that bis eyes were not seriously injured, but his face,-as the skin pealed oft, tRras a horrible sight. ••-•-*- i * Stockholm Depot|. VIDKUTSUPBA ••»- -•• Latvreiiceville. I i LAWKKNCKVILLE, July 7th. Some of our peoj)!© havo solved tho problem of how to spend the Fourth of July and really enjoy the day. Some ( of our young ladies thought that to havo the day go by without suitable recognition, would be too marked a contrast, after all the bufctlo and crowds of 1885-6* hore upon that day, so thoy conceiv- ed tlie idea of a picnic under the trees in the handsome grounds of 1 W. C. Blish, all were invited to join in making the idea a practical suc- cess. Aboijt ten o'clock on the mqrninig, of the hot and dusty day, countless young ladies, old ladies, and children, wero seen toiling along under the weight of well filled bas- kets, toward the cool inviting place, whore, were already placed, tables, easy chairs, swings, hammocks and in fact nearly everything conducive to the happiness of all upon such an occasion, about noon there came a burst of thunder sound \Tfye boys oh where are thoy,\ nearly all gone to the Falls, those who remained at home wore soon seen on the street coming from all directions seeking for the source of the terrific sounds, soon the source became visablo, for upon tho steps of tho store of Sam, \The notorious- Mullet fisherman\ all' arrayed in white, stood a troupe of hornblowcrs, engaged in tho good old manner of calling all to dinner. Soon, around the tables, filled with all tho things necessary to croate ,tho largest k|nd of an aj>petite,' iu any one, and just here lot mo men- tion that \Harriet\ made the coffee which is tiio strongest guarantee possible of its quality; were gather- ed old and young to tho number of •10 or 50 ,fdl intent upon gotting all tho enjoyment possible out of tho occasion.
