I noticed in your publicntuln of tho 18th, inst. in tho West Bangor correspondence in regard to a certain divino visiting that placoj Now we wish to say to tjiat correspondent from Wost Bangor, that if they will givo us through tho columns of THK APIHONDACK NEWS the name of that divine, and the namo of the parties whom ho usod compulsory methods in trying to procure their affidavits and to place their own signatures to tho correspondence, as we sometimes havo to do with legal matters, in our poor way, we will And time to* investigate the mat- ter and if enough is found in i t to warrant legal proceedings,we will ondeavpr to have that divine brought to justice, and if not willing to com- ply with the above request, will that correspondent wjiether gentleman or lady, please ask themselves if to stab a divino in the back is ,a good way to spread tlio gospel? I Friday June 24th, C. J. Adams' Steam Saw Mill, about three , miles south of hero, blew up, and to- tally demolished tho Engine House and carried one of tho boilers weigh- ing about four tons, thirty flvo rods from the mill into tho woods, and for tho last ten rods it cut a tract clean about sixteen foot wide, cutting down timber about one foot through turning up other trees in its rout. Badly cutting and scalding, James Collins tho engineer, and blowing Aldin Smith, a man that was draw- ing away saw dust, under some tres- tle work, on somo slabo wood and the trcstlo fell on him, cutting, and bruising him very badly,, they are doing well at this writing. Hugh 5 'olsom, from Burk was hauling iniber with George Wilson's team and had just drove in to load, as the explosion took place, and had one leg broken in two places and his thigh badly cut, it is thought at this time, that ho can not live long. One other niau got a blow in one of his eyes, it is thought that he will loose tho site of it. Mr. Adams will repair his mill immediately. Wo are getting a good supply of rain these da vs. The two men, one Frank Williams from this town and James Trim of Dickinson, that' are charged with stealing a two year old colt from the pasture of Samuel Adams, belonging to James Keefe, of Brandon, are, We hear, boarding with Sheriff Sunder- land. In looking over your last weeks issue we noticed a letter, published, from Lyman Oliver of this place in which he t would try to have the pul lie believe that a former item of ours about a certain divine was all false and says: that ho wan with the Rev. Gentleman\ when he asked for affidavits and heard one | party tell kinV'bo would think the matter over oct., H and that the same party said that ''ho had soen the other side and they threatened, to exclude him from the church etc.\ and that it was but a reoccurranco of tho adage \Thief crying Thief' and etc. Wo\ havo investigated tho matter and find that we did write it a little strong, but it was through being misinformed and wo are ever ready and willing to correct all such errors. We don't learn that ho told anyone point black that they would have to pay notes if they did not sign the affidavits, but one party so understood it from a letter hq re- ceived, and a conversation they had, previous to receiving tho letter and told two or three that he considered himself, on probation and we know of one party where he demanded paymont on notes, which he had bought against him before night, and said if ho did not receive payment, tho notos would bo put into his at- torneys hands for collection, and of another instance where he gave the party but 8 hours and wo could givo tho names if it was necessary. The party' who had seen the other side, and wad to be excluded from the church, denies tho accusation, and wo have seen the Trustees, the only ones having such power - and thoy say that they never threatened him. Sp we think that our friend Oliver is a little off the track, and we hope that thin is a satisfactory explana- tion. .% * West Bangor. WEST BANGOR, Juno 20th. Tho boiler explosion at C. $ Adams' mill in Brandon last week was a fearful one. The building, boiler, brick masonry on which the boiler stood etc. was all blown into tho woods and not hardly a vistage is left to mark tho spot where it stood. The boiler, which weighed nearly three tons, was lifted 80 feet into tho air and blown about 85 rods into tho woods, breaking^ the tops off of two largo hemlock trees and tipping over two large birohos, in its track. A littlo boy standing near by, was Iflown about threo rods over a pilo of slabs and landed on the other side in tho road made of sawdust, receiving only a slight bruso on tho leg. F. A.
