I know that Devine to whom allusion was made and I am assured that nothing of tho kind' ever occured. If tho writer will givo the name .to tho public of the party ,ui>on whom compulsory methods was Used thus giving them an opportunity to as- certain the facts in the case this will satisfy. . | I was with him when ho spoke to parti6s as to their knowledge of such facts { as ho wished to procure. When they told hiin that they pos- sessed such facts he aslced them if thoy would make an affidavit so stating. I heard one party tell him he would think the matter over aud if ho concluded to do so, ho could have it by Friday., This same party told me afterward that ho had seen the other side and they said to him if he did so he too would be exclud- ed fr#m the church. E. H. Potter's littlo boy was badly bitten by a dog, Tuesday. Burglars entered the depot and tho stores of W. H. Smith and J. S. Quinn, last Monday night ' They got about $5 at tho depot and about tho same amount at Smith's with candy sud cigars. A*t Quinn's they took cigars, candy, tobacco, neck-ties etc. This* makes the second time that Smith's jias boen burglarized in tho past year. If they happen/ to be caught (which they probably will not) tho next you hear, they will be around with a paper for their release. Mrs. D. C. Cornish has returned home from Boston, where she has been to have a surgical oporatiou performed, in which, they removed a tumor. She is doing well at pre- sent W. P. Gibson, of Malone, made this place a pleasant call, Monday. Pert, of tho American House, Norwood, was in town this week call- ing on friends. ' | The B. Straw bomes, Ice Cream and Cako was served by the ladies of the 11C, Society, Friday evening the 17th, in the grovo at the church. Every- thing WAS in good order. Father Fitzgerald, of Madrid, was present and favored us j witlr Vocal music, which was well adapted to the occa- sion, and appreciated by alt. The Bra- sher Cornet Band came out on the 8 o'clock train and returned on the 10, although thoir stay was short their music was splendid, and assist- ed in making one of the best enter- tainments tha/t we have witnessed, and it was enjoyed by all present Tho Brushton B. B. club, came and played a match gamo of ball with the Lawrence, club, Saturday tho 18th, tho result was: 12 scores for Brushton, and 57 for Lawrence, who, at the close of tho game, gave tho Brushton's an invitation to the Union Hotel, where tho tables were filled to overflowing with the fat of the land. Each enjoyed the repast aud parted in harmony, and agreed to match again on Saturday the 25th at Brushton. We are informed that ono John Driscoll, of Moira, put in an appearance to the disgust of nearly everyone. Kind friends advised him to go home, but he still lingered a- round, until constable Williams gobbled him tip, and took him before Justice Hayes who fined him $11, which was paid. We r hopo John is a wiser if not A better man. If kind words and gentle means will not re- claim the wicked, they must be dealt with in a more severe manner. The \Fats\ and the \Leans\ of our village, played a match game of ball, Monday afternoon the 20th, which resulted in favor of the \Fats\ 45 to 25. This was the most excit- ing game wo| ever witnessed. The Ladiep Aid Society of the M. E. James Keefe of Brandon, lost a two year old colt, about two weeks ago and after searching the premis- es and not finding it, concluded that some one had stolen it He suspec ed James Trim and George Wil iams, who resided near Dawson's mill, in Dickinson, as the guilty par- ties. Thoy were arrested and. nad an examination last Friday, at South Bombay, and proved to be the thieves.
