Yet there is no place in the county or state where these autetwaate be financially able to pay the high ratee of the private sanatorium, but the great majority must stay at - home where- the danger of giving the disease to tome other member of the fsaauy in always present. During the last month a number of people have some to me aad implored that I tell then where they might spend their re- nuuaing days and not expose, their chil- dren to tbe terrible disease. One man mid that ho would gladly go to the coun- ty home if they would only accept him. I aeuld only reply that there was no place for them. The need for a tuberculosis hospital is urgent, not so much to eure those who are ill, but protect those who are well. The taxpayers of this county should not think It nteesssry to appropriate 925,- 000 or 150,000 for this institetion ; 910,- 000 or $12,000 would provide a hospital which would accommodate many a patient in ease and comfort. This proposed hos- pital is not of the nature of city institu- tions ; it is a hospitaU of simple eonstruc- tiou where veraadas are tbe main consi- deration. The cure for tuberculosis de- mands fresh air and sunlight, not expen* sive operating rooms aad large medical steff. Several counties of the state have purchased small farms and using the faAnhouseas a nucleus have extended the verandas, remodeled here and there, and the remit baa been a tuberculosis hospital adequate to care for their county I iantllvs bo wile aad arervmt diftetion. jaundice or pall stones. 1 rejrslate fiver, ejtnsMck sod bowek bwildepyoer beaUh. It has been the experience of county boepitals already in operation that many of the patients admitted pay for their support either in whole or in part. There- fore tbe question of yearly maintenance sbould not deter tbe supervisors from es- tablisbing a county tuberculosis hospital. Sixteen counties of the state now have hospitals in operation or in construction. Franklin Counny cannot afford to dewy longer in caring for its own tuberculous people. \_\ Thanking you for ihe courtesy which your paper extends, I am Very truly youis, JAY M. STRONG.
