Gi id- j multifarious inert ‘Oils’ and hair restoratives C O D U M B A T * H A I R C E R A T E AND ANTI-SCORBUTIC SPECIFIC. T HE peculiar p roperties of this invaluable article werediscovered a c c identlly, about five years ago-, by a gentleman of known and acknowleged practical and speculative science and respectability; and an enemy to quack ery in all its forms, In a case which occurred within his own family, a young lady was af flicted with an inveterate scrofulous eruption, itnmediataiy below the hair of the forehead ; havin'* long known the anti-scorbutic proper ties ofthe C e r a te, he directed her to apply it as a remedy. The consequence was an imme diate and radical cure; and at the same time, on the diseased part, sprung a band of pecu liarly rich, glossy hair, about three-fourtbs of on inch in width, extending the fore -hair aown the forehead that di-tance ; and o f a dolor several shades darker than the other haiir cf the head, which remains to this hour. Sur prised at the result-, the discoverer projected a theory for effects, and has since that timfe constantly kept the Cerate on hand, and dis pensed i t to such of his friends aDd acquaint ances, as his hypothesis led him to consider proper subjects for experiment. T h e result has been beneficial in every instance; and in many cases such wonderful effects as have decided him in the belief that he has discovered its arcanum ; that it is a specific; in scrofulous diseases of the head ; that it positively does improve, perpetuate add testofe the growth of the hair, when it is falling, from disease or debility of the capillary vessels—and that it is therefore too valuable tb be withheld from llie public. And it is confidently be; lieved, that if it has a fair trial, according to the directions, the public will notbe disappoint ed— b u t that ils intrinsic merit will establish for it, a lasting repntation, far superior to the ey <fe Co, opposite the Post-Office, Auburn. H I B B A R D ' S V E G E T A B L E ANTI BILLIOUS F A M I L Y P I R R S . r | p H E S E Pills have become known to Ihe fi. public e n tirely by t h e i r virtue?. T h e i r j>.>W''rful influence in relieving and curing dis eases, have been so repeatedly tested that the proprietors induced to comply with the sohctiat- ‘ intis of Iriends in thus noticing them, extending j thereby a knowledge of the means of relief lo the public generally. T h e y are highly ap p r e ciated f o r t h e relief they affind in affections o the liver and digestive organs. T h e worst ca ses of chronic dyspepsia, invi torate costivene ndigestion, dyspeptic consumption, rheumatism, nervous or sick head ache, an d s r u r v y have been entirely cured, by a proper use ofthem. A W T I « D Y S F S f F T I C F I L L S . P ERSONS afflicted with Dyspepsia, have so olten had their hopes ol c u re raised only t o b e b ’.astfd, lhat it is v ith a degree ol dif fidence that the proprietor offers to this class ofthe afflicted any thiog to excite new hopes; and it is only on conviction that he 13 ena bled lo present them a remedy for their dis ease, from which they will not have to turn with d isappointment after a t r i a l , lhat he is now induced to ask their attention. After fifteen years spent in the practice o f me dicine, and having become conversant with this disease, and witnessed tVie inefficacy of the common remedies resorted to for its relief, the proprietor became convinced that the com mon idea, that debility of the stomach constitu ted the disease, was incorrect ; for tonics and stimulants, which in that case should relieve, only aggravated the disease; and if cathartics gave a momentary relief, it was at the price of future suffering. JFioin all the accompany ing symptoms, he was induced to turn his at tention to the glandular and nervous systems, and is convinced it is a disease ofthe glands of the stomach, sometimes extending lo the liVer and olher glands, in a nervous temper ament, or the disease itspjf producing a high degree ol nervous irritability. Taking this view, he sought those medicines which were calculated to a ter the action of the glands, rem-»ve obstructions snd allay nervous ir ritation. Afier repeated trials, he has suc ceeded in a compound which answers his ex pectations, and which he now offcts to the public. Dvspeptic persons taking these pills, will find tlieir heartburn, flalulercy, acrid eruct ations, gnawing aad pain of the stomach, chilliness, lowness of spirits, pain nnd giddi ness of the head, and sleepless nights relieved, without increasing their costiveness: but on tlie contrary, obviating the necessity of re sorting to cathartics. And while relieving these distressing nervous symptoms, they are having a deobstruent and alterative effect upon the glands; and thus removing the disease. These pills are an efficient anti-spasmodic medicine and will be found efficacious in hy steric di.-eases, and all nervous pains, such as the nervous head-ache and nervous tooth-ache, tie-douloureux, &c. from their readily allaying nervous irritation. Jl trial o f these pills will be a sufficient recom mendation , yet f o r the satisfaction of those who hqve not had this opportunity, the f o l lowing testimonials are selected: — Sand Lake, N o v . 1 5 , 1 8 3 6 . Cyfarlhfa Iron Works , Aj)ril 1 , 1836 ; d e a r s i r While on a visit s o m e tim e ago at Alderman Thompson’s I had the honor of meeting our mu tual <friend. Sir Astley Cooper, and the aP.er dinner conversation one day, turned upon the necessity o fadopting some course for tho better p- eservation of the health of tbe numerous individuals employed in my works and other extensive maufactories. Sir 4stley veryjustly remarked, that the apa thy evinced by working men in general to ap ply for medical a.sistan'ce was most unaecouuta- ble, though gratuitously administered to them, and as a remedy, he suggested that much good might be done by furnishing the heads of fami lies with a prepared medicine, (so that they migh at all time3 have it on hand,) and he strongly recommended your P ills , from his knowledge of their composition, and great use- ‘ulness as a genet al medicine. On my return home, I consulted Dr. Russell, tbe superintending Physician of my establish- fient, on the subject; who entirely coincided with me on the advantages likely to be derived from such a course. I therefore requested him to apply to you for a quantity, which you prompt ly forwarded, with the prescription, for which 1 beg you to accept r y thanks, and 1 n o w feel great pleasure in informing you that the experi ment has exceeded our most sanguine expecta tions, in improving the general health of my men ; on great numbers in every department, the good effects of the medicine, Dr. Russell i n forms me, has been highly satisfactory, particu larly among those employed in mining, and on the Smelting and Puddlipg Furnaces, so well known as destructive to the human constitution. I am glad to h ear my neighbors of the Penydar- ran, Dowlais, and Plym o y h works, are by my recommendation, using th* medicine with the ‘amesucress. S ir :— In tbe fall of the year 18S3, I had an attack of the dyspepsia xvhich lasted me nearly two years. During this time I suffered much from m e n t a l d e p r e s s i o n , c o n s t a n t p s i n in ih e head and breast and sides, sharp shooting pains over almost the whole system : the food that I ate seemed to pass into my lungs and there rrmain, giving me great pain, atterded xvith a strong degree of h e a t. At times I suf fered so much from the pain o f indigestion as to be confined to the bed for two or three days. During one ofthese most severe allacks, 1 was induced by the advice of a friend to try your vegetable medicine. In the course of a few weeks I found myselfmuch better, and by the time I had taken txvo bottles considered myself wholly free H orn the complaint. I continue, on the least feeling of any thing like indigestim or pressure on the stomach, to take about a ta ble-spoonful of it which in the course of a few hours completely restores me. It has had a wonderful effect in strengthening the stomach and invigorating the whole system, and judging by my owa case, I eonsider it in all diseases connected with the digestive organs to be a very valuable medicine.
