Charles, the 2-year-old son of Mr.and Mrs. Albert Truax of Herkimer, was terribly iburned about the face, fore head and forearm yesterdasy by a boittle of spirits o f camphor which h e h ad itip- ped over on the stove hearth. 'ThS al- ■cohol, with which the drug was diluted, •immediately burst Into flames and ig nited the child’s clothing. Mrs. Truax happened to toe going through the kitchen a t the time and with great presence of mind she gratohed the .^hild and smothered the flam'es with her skirts.. When Dr. Kay arrived the lit tle one was so far gone that no pulse could he felt. The efforts o f the physi cian were 'finally rewarded. Dr. Kay thinks the child will recover unless it inhaled some of the flame. First M. E. Church. The missionary society of the First M. E. church 'held its regular monthly m'oeting yesterday ■afternoon, led hy the president, Mrs. Clark. An Interesting part of the session, and one which oc cupied the greater portion of 'thd tl'me, was th a t devoted to the reading of let ters from missionaries, which were full of interesting m atter and -enlisted the close attention, of the ladles, whose z6al in this branch of work is shown hy the fact that they helped, as far as possible, a young man from 'Damascus who offered an exquisite variety of goods from his native country for sale, and who is thus seeking to defray the expenses of an education for mission ary work. Performed an Operation. An operation was performed on Charles iSager a t the Nathan Llttauer hospital this .morning by Dxs. Edwards an-d Wood, and i t •was found th a t the man was suffering from, appendicitis. Sager was taken suddenly ill in the F., J. & G. depot yesterday morning, and after being taken to ■th'e Nathan Llttauer hospital was made 'as comfort able as possible and it was decided to perform a n operation as the only means of alleviating the sufferings e.f the un fortunate man. The operation was made this morning and the physicians found a 'hole in 'the appendix from which substances were being toroed Into the abdominal cavity and causing intense pain.
