GAS ATTACK 13 COMPANY H, 107TH INFANTRY. i i Squads—East and W e s t” reigns supreme once more, now that we are on our new schedule of training, and the old 4i H ip! Hip! ” is certainly taking the kinks out of our legs, and making the Mess Sergeant hustle to sat isfy our appetites. In fact, Private t( Jimmy Black ’ ’ thinks there is something the m a tter with him, for he claims he can eat for an hour and his appetite w o n ’t come. Privates H alstead and Gosselin have been transferred to the 1st New Hampshire Regi ment, and will soon be acting as interpreters for our boys in France. H alstead should prove an instant hit in the c (Gay Paree ’ ’ with th a t Charlie Chaplin moustache of his. Anyway we hope they make good in their new work. The company has also lost eleven other boys, who in the capacity of mechanics, cooks, etc., are wanted in France. We wish them all the very best of luck, and although they are beating us 4 1 over there, ’ ’ have promised faithfully to save a bit of the K aiser to beat up. Big 1 1 Lew ’ ’ Frank, who used to make the folks back up in Endicott sit up and take notice, with his ability at football, says all he wants is 4 4 one crack at the German line, and he will plough right through to Berlin for a touchdown. ’ ’ We miss our old friends who are over a t tending the Officers’ Training School, namely First Sergeant Leonard, Sergeant Phillips, Sergeant Yollbracht, and Corporals Purcell and Parker. We wish them success and ex pect them all to be Majors, at least. The company has a grudge against the Officers ’ Training School, however, as it has taken away from us both Lieutenant Mc Kenna and Lieutenant Baldwin. Corporal P u rcell’s fine setting up drills are also missed, and he certainly used to make us hustle, with his 4 4 One—two—head erect, three—four—body straight, ’ ’ etc. Mrs. W. C. Lamb and Mrs. Clinton May are down in Spartanburg visiting their hub bies. ’ ’ All the boys are busy limbering up in order to be prepared for the running and jumping tests. Captain Tompkins goes right at it with the boys, and leather puttees and all, shows how easy it is to hop 14 feet. But why the 100 yard dash try outs? We don’t intend to run when we see the Dutchmen! From pictures we see of the trenches in the W estern front, it might be a good idea to have practice in swimming! Sergeant Edward Breusch is our Gas N. C. O., and the Sergeant promises us a few whiffs of gas in the near future. The company now has its bombing ex perts, autom atic rifle specialists, etc., etc., and there is much rivalry among the boys over which ” c rew ” is the best. Some of the boys say after they get through hurling bombs, there will be nothing more to it, but they only get away with th a t statem e n t when bombers only are around. T. B. K. International Film Service. PRETTY SOFT! Americans and Canadians fraternizing in a cafe on one of the French boule vards in Paris. 4TH COMPANY, SUPPLY TRAIN. Sol W einberg, the boy hypnotist, who made a hit at the show of the M. P. ’s and 105th In f a n try at the H a rris theater, is not allowed to put any more privates under his influence on account of the new order issued from headquarters. Sol has been working in our canteen and now he has his wife coming down, so you see the graft must be good. Sergeant John Reilly got back from his furlough, but he says they searched him at Charlotte, N. C. Red Lyon was asked to put on a 44 s k i t ” with our hypnotist at the Y. M. tent and he got cold feet. H a rry Pretz, the assistant clerk, just ar rived from Rockaway and he says the town has not changed. SGT. J. S. COMPANY A, 53D PIO NEER INFANTRY. Did you hear that loud noise Saturday afternoon? That was the privates of the 53rd Pioneer laughing at the non-coms of the same outfit who had to use a pick and shovel. All hands have voted Captain B. K illian the best ever, and we are back of him to a man. When asked why 4 4 ta t to o ” is sounded, Sergeant Ashenfeldt supposed it was to close the camp canteens. Since the exercises are discontinued while Sergeant M cArthur is on a furlough, we hope he enjoys himself for a month. The author of 44 Rough and R e a d y ” is too busy drawing two to a flush to compose any thing new. P rivate Adrain wore top Sergeant’s stripes on his last furlough. Jim , you should read R. B. O.’s tip in The Gas A ttack. A. C. HEADQUARTERS CO., 104TH FIELD ARTILLERY. 44 D izzy” Bair wrote to his uncle for a pair of boots and received a pair of officer’s leather boots. Wonder w hat he would get if he wrote for a rain coat? Corporal Norman Allis is signing all of the boys up for insurance. Sergeant Daniel Williams is acting as first Sergeant since our genial top-kick W illiam Spring was made a Second Lieutenant. 4 4 W h az-zat” Higgins is still making them laugh in the ninth tent. Some boy, is Homer. 44 P ink F a c e ” Schoonover has been made Saddler and is living w ith the mules on the picket line. Has anybody noticed 4 4 B ill” R e h o rn’s ex pression when THAT letter doesn’t arrive on time? 44 C lara” Mostyn is now a corporal. Up the ladder of fam e again, eh Montague? Some soup on Sunday evening, eh boys? C a n ’t expect much when th a t bunch of K. P . ’s, 44 Apple Knocker ’ ’ Saxon and 4 4 Jew B o y ” K iley are spending their annual vaca tion in the kitchen. Wonder if * * F ish ’ ’ Frayer will ever get that furlough? Good things come to those who w ait you know. Sergeant Mills, Corporals Rowan and Vree- land and Private Simpson are at the Officers’ Training Camp and the boys have our well wishes. 4 4 E d ” Lively looks real scholarly these days with those tortoise shell glasses. W eir is still doling out pies in the canteen, but has hopes of being a regular baker some day. 44Galloping George ” Anger is still putting away heavy eats every meal. W h at do you do with it all, George? F. B. F.
