' 28t2 Members of the Insured Savings and Loan Associations of Nas- sau and Suffolk Counties at their February meeting went on record as being unanimously opposed to a bill introduced in the State Legislature at Albany \to limit and regulate advertising and pro- motion activities and practices of banking? organizations. \ The bill , which would g ive the- state banking board authority to police the advertising of all state- chartered banks , savings banks and savings and loan associations, was introduced in this session of the Legislature at the request of G. Russell Clark , state superinten- dent of banks. While its provis- ions would not appl y to national banks and Federal savings and loan associations , all . of the mem- bers of the Nassau-Suffolk group of savings and loan associations were vehement in their opposition to the proposal. It was stated at the meeting, held at the Rockville Country Club February 23 , that the bill is meet- ing vigorous opposition from vir- tual!^ all of the banking and finan- cial groups in the state. Members of the group stated that the state banking authorities already have power under the pres- ent banking laws to prohibit fraudulent and misleading adver- tising and promotional practices and that more specific powers , might lead to a requirement that advertising copv be approved be- fore it was used . This might prove impractical and become an ad- ministrative headache for both the banking department and the finan- cial institutions affected , it was pointed out. H. B. Diffenderfer , president of the Nassau-Suffolk grouo, said the members are opposed to the un- bridled use of \ giveaways \ in ob- taining new business but do not believe the proposed bill is the answer to the problem and would undoubtedly create more prob- lem s than it solved. mmWmmWmmmmmmmmWmmWmmWmmmmmmMmm - Savings , Loan Associations Oppose State Bill to Regulate Advertisin g • \—— ¦¦¦—- '-^- \- \ ¦ ———^—^-^^———^—^^ mm ^^^^—^^^^————^^^ -^^ BH - ¦¦Ill- H ill III -\\ - - ¦ - ¦ ---¦ ! SPECIAL: Kitchen and Dinette Chairs Recovered from $3.50 Chairs Re-Wehbed : $3.95 Repairs in Your Home —— i i i BOHEMIA — Preliminary p lan for an 1 , 800-pupil junior -senior high school is now under study by the board of education of the Connetquot Central School Dis- trict. The plan is based on a re- cent survey of the newly organ- ized distric t by Dr. Herbert Lan- dry of the New York City Board of Education. Dr. Landry, in his report, pre- dicts that Jrhe total public school enrollment of the former Oakdale- Bohemia and Ronkonkoma dis- tricts will reach nearl y 5 , 200 pu- pils in the 1965-66 school year. The report points out that the district has grown so rapidly iu the past 10 years that the popu- lation has quadrupled. Also , con- sidering the number of dwellings under construction and the resi- dential land available , the district could easily double its population in the future. The report stresses that since the rapid growth has broug ht many young families with rela- tively young children , Connetquot High School must have a strong guidance progra m if the curricu- lum is to fit the needs and abilities of the pupils . It was also suggested in the re- port that any future hi g h school should include the necessary elec- trical wiring to accommodate clos- ed-circuit television within the school. The report states that \ re- cent years have seen a tremendous impetus g iven to the use of tele- vision as a teaching tool . In New York State , the Board of Regents has developed a program of edu- cational telecasts beamed to the schools. The junior -senior high schoo l that is proposed for the district would be erected on a 60-acre dis- trict-owned site in Bohemia. Pre- liminary plans were submitted to the State Education Department in Albany last week.
