The first half champions , the Sea Hawks , found the j roinj r a bit roucc h when the Tigers held them to a tie in regulation time, only to bow . 31- 2P . on a clutch basket by Bobb y Nelson. This climaxed a fine per- formance by Nelson as lie tallied 21 points during the game. This total of 21 was matched by Randy Smith of the Tigers. The game was nip and tuck all the way. being tied 11 all at half time. The Tigers played their best game to date. Jim Hall from the Sea Hawks and Robin Bell from the Tigers turned in excellent floor games. Keeping pace with the Sea Hawks the Rod Robins scored a nl-2. ' > victory over the Rebels. Tin Nolan brothers Pete and Kevin and Bobb y Abrams. with 20 points , paved the attack. It was a 19-14 game at half time but the Robins turned in a blistering second half, tallying M2 markers. Dan Hughes and Tom Roman shared the scor- ing laurels for the Rebels. In the windup game of the tripleheader . the Rams took the measure of the Black Hawks, 35- 10. Artie Niedling with 18 tallies and Bobb y Yarrington with 16 showed the way. Next week' s highlights figure to be the encounter between the Rams and the Sea Hawks. Proios Betters Own Nat 'l Mark In Weightlifting Stan Proios of the Port Jeffe r- son Spartans , weightlifting club of the Brookhaven Town Recrea- tion Department , broke his own national teenage weightlifting record at the Easter n District YMCA Teen Age contest. Stan entered in the heavyweigh t division , pressed 280 pounds , snatched 260 pounds and in the clean and jerk , moved 340 pounds. All together , this totaled 880 pounds , exceeding his own national record of 855 pounds set last year at the national championshi ps held in York , Pa. Two other first place trophies were earned by Tom Moffet in the 1 98-pound class with a total of 750 pounds and Fred Cerullo , Jr., a 15-year-old from Shirley enter- ed in the 123-pound plan. Fred' s total was recorded at 520 pounds. Other point scores for the Spar- tans were Paul Guzman in the 132-pound class and Ed Oberlin in the 148-pound division. The next meet for the boys is- scheduled for February 18. According to promoter Ed Haw- kins , Riwrhead Raceway will change its ear specifications slight- ly this year - so that they will be identical with the current NAS- CAR specs . Taking home most of the awards at the dinner-dance will be Jimmy Malone of Southampton , who drove ear No . 34 to victory with amaz- ing regularity last season. He led the sportsmen drivers with 548 points , beating out John Berkoski of Bridgehampton ( 44X ), Charlie Turbush of Riverhead and Silas Hiscuck of Bridgehampton (tied with 418). Malone also topped the niodified-sportsiuen category with 7.38 points. Berkoski ( 004 ) and Turbush < 502) followed. In the jalopy division , Mike (loss of Speonk won with 322 points , fol- lowed by Jim Konkel of Eastport (248) and Buzz Hedges of Bridge- hampton (240) . Top Riverhead Track Drivers To Gain Awards CENTRAL ISLIP — S a c b e m High' s basketball team was unable to tontain a strong third period at tack and lost to Central Islip, 53- 44 . F. ' nlay night. The game was much closer than the score would indicate . The score was tied at 0-0 at the end of the first period of play. In the second period . CI went ahead b y seven and led. 20-10. at the half \ . Sachem managed to hang on g\amei y and trailed by only six at the end of the third quarter . 30- 30. The fourth period decided the outcome of the game. Central Is- lip ' s cagers outdistanced Sachem in that last period of play for their nine point advantage , 53-44. Central Isli p s Black hit on eight field goals and three from the foul line for 10 points , the game ' s high . For Sachem, Schmidt notched 17 and Bill Herrschaft scored 13. Commenting on Sachem Hi g h' s overall basketball future , Coach Joe Gundermami said , \Sachem is looking to improve. We hope to do better in our coming games. William Ze- browski is doing\ the Van Brocklin chores for the men ' s group while Mrs. Mary Borella calls the sig- nals for the very energetic Ladies ' Auxiliary. Nancy ' s Restaurant , our meet- ing place , opened its doors to us when we needed a home. The club' s first Christmas benefi t games with former Patchogu e and Seton Hall basketball p lavers going up against each other , wh i ch were snurred on by the fine work of Don Camnbell , in a worth y cause , is now historv. This may become an annual affair if the fans and players so desire . * * * The Patchogu e High School cagers can put a championshi p banner dPfiO-Gl) on its gymnas- ium wall if they will just have faith in themselves and their coach. They have what it takes when they play together and are now j ust beginning to jell . Thev are strong finishers . . . The Pat- chogue Advance, through its nress coverage , has helned mi ghtily in the Quarterback Club' s success. We miss some of the familiar faces at our Monday nigh t meet- ings which start at 8 p. m. at Nancy ' s Restaurant.
