' . . —Advance Photo Rupert C Parks , president of<S> the Patehogue Kiwanis . Club , has announced that annual contribu- tions were made at a dinner meet- ing held at the Patehogue Hotel December 27. A. total of $5 , 277 was distributed. The money was raised by sev- eral fund-raising efforts of the Patehogu e Kiwanis Club and is attributed to the fine support of local citizens who have continually supported Kiwanis functions. Majo r fund-raising events were a dinner-dance and car award last Marshik for the performance he gave on the electric organ of the temple. Knight Templary, an advanced degree of Masonry, has a double purpose for its being. It is con- cerned principally with the cor- rection and study of causes of blindness and it also maintains a fund helping college students to earn higher degrees in their search of knowledge. These loans enable worthy students to further know- ledge to the betterment of man- kind and are granted without re- gard to color , race or creed , the commander said. Patehogue Commandery as al- ways is p ledged to the civic good , the community welfare and the nation ' s betterment and there is more than mere lip service in its approach to the juvenile question , as exemplified by its interest in the De Molay, Rainbow and Tri- angle groups , a spokesman said. He is Edmund W. Tuton of Pateh- ogue , center , who is pictured with Rupert C. Parks of Bayport , left , 1960 president of Patehogue Kiwanis Club, and Rolff J. Roscott of Blue Point , righ t , 1961 president. Spring ; a clambake last Summer , and the annual ball held last Oc- tober. Also , a substantial amount was derived from various member assessments at weekl y Kiwanian meetings. The fund-raising com- mittee \ was headed by John Bar- rie , Jr. , of East Patehogue. The Kiwanis Club of Patehogue was founded in 1938. A former Patchoguer , Doug las Brown , was its first president. Mr. Brown now resides in the Virgin Islands. Throug hout the years , this organi- zation has spearheaded many local efforts and has continually sup- porte d the many needed institu- tions that serve the local area. This service organization has maintained a policy of channeling contributions through local organi- zations and to earmark the funds for a direct benefi t to residents of the area. It has continued it ,:-: support to the hospital annuall y. Jt has al- so been a consistent supporter of St. Charles Hospital , with many thousands of dollars being contri- buted throughout the years to this cause. Mr. Park s , a Bayport resident , has served as president during 19(H) . Rolff Roscott of Blue Point served as first vice president; Wal- lace Otis of Blue Point , second vice president; Vincent Holland of Bel port , treasurer , and William Richards of Bell port , secretary. The board of directors was com- prised of Joseph Reidy, James Mc- Peak and Vitro Rizzi of Pateh- ogue; Hans Van Ginhoven , John Barne , Jr., and Charles Maler of East Patehogue and Duane Haw- kins of Blue Point. James Bianca of Patehogue served as immediate past president. Early in 1960 , the Patehogue Club sponsored a new Kiwanis Club in Sayville. This project was acclaimed as the first new club sponsored in the U. S. and Canada in 1960. Alfred Chiuchiolo of Pat- ehogue served as chairman of this committee. Contributions were made to the following : BROOKHAVEN MEMORIAL HOSPI- TAL — ( Represented at meeting by John F. White of Sayville) : To equip a four-bed room in the new wing of the hospital. HELP FOR NEEDY CHILDREN— Re- presented at meeting by Mrs . Alice Parks of bayport of the Suffolk County Depart- ment of Public Welfa re): To provide funds for special needs of children. ST. CHARLES HOSPITAL - ( Represent- at meeting by Miss Jo McCarthy) : To furnish an electrically controlled bed. This bed will be installed in the new rehabilitation center and will permit the patien t to be more self sufficient. HELP FOR RETARDED CHILDREN— ( Represented at meeting by C. Curvin Hovis of the Association for the Help of Retarded Children) : To furnish heating for the yea r 1961 at the new center being used by the Association for the Hel p of Retarded Children. The new cente r , donat- ed by the St. Francis de Sales Church , is located in the former St. Francis Pa ro- chial School on South Ocean Avenue in Patehogue. Among the visitors present were four Knights of the York Crosr of Honour , one of the hig hest honors eonferrable , William S. Matsunaye , Jr., Samuel J. Frace and Roland LaGrange of the lo- cal lodge , wearing this medallion as we ' .l as Wilbur Hayes, past commander of Trinity Command- ery. The Shriners of Kismet Temp le were recognized and Illustrious Potentate Fred R. Trenor , who is also past commander of Patehogue Commandery, as well as Carl Hullinger , president of the Suf- folk Shrine Club and a past com- mander , stood wi th the Nobles. The entire Patehogue Commandery Line are Nobles , an organization dedicated to the maintenance of hospitals for crippled children re- gardless of race , color or creed. The commander then recognized the Deputy Grand High Priest Grand Chapter , Royal A rch Ma- sons of the State of New York , William S. Matsunaye , Jr., who was wearing the emblem of a Knig ht of the York Cross of Hon- our for having been elected and presiding as head of all subordi- nate units of York masonry as well as being a past potenta te of Kismet Temple.
