Report: By Pete Poulos MEN'S BASKETBALL — A meeting was held last week for all teams interested in p laying men ' s basketball. It seems that either I called the meeting on a wrong nigh t or that maybe not too many teams are interested in p laying men ' s basketball. Last year , the under 27-year-olds had four teams and . the over 27 had six teams. This year we only have one team interested m the under 27-year-olds. I see that on the entire town level only nine teams have shown interest , so maybe it' s a trend. Some of tne teams that played last year are Blue Point , Swan Cleaners , Uour Seasons , Rose Jewelers , Patehogue Music , LaBua Clippers and Patehogue Lumber. It seems that of all these we should field at least four teams. The next meeting will be held at the Bay Avenue School gym at 8 p. m. Monday. If you feel like bringing your sneakers to warm up you may do so. GIRLS' BASKETBALL — This Monday night at the River Avenue School , all g irls are invited to p lay basketball . Some of the girls who have already signed up are Delmar Brown , Georgia Lowe , Collette Stevenson , Pat Kelly, Carol Arnodeo , Sue Ferguson , Sharon Kelly, Carol Cardamone , Marie Passerello , Chery l Gehrig, Rita Briscoe , Rosanna Reardon , Lois Schwinge , Joann Stepham , Joan Gutowski and Pat Ferguson. The ex-Patchogue High School star and the swimming pool lifeguard , Diane Schrocder , wall be the coach and instructor. Diane has volunteered to take over Monday nights. * * * * VOLLEYBALL — On Wednesday nights at the Bay Avenue School , John Murphy will be in charge of the Volleyball games. Last Wednesday night John had the Sabre club, the post office and the Patehogue Mummies p laying a few practice games. John informs me that two or three teams are needed to round out the schedule. If anyone has to go to the gym Wednesdays , the league will not begin for several weeks. MIDGET BASKETBALL—The next midget basketball session will be the morning of November 19. The schools will be closed for the next two Saturdays. I am still in need of more coaches to help with this program. If anyone ia interested in helping lo develop the future stars of Patehogue , I can be contacted at the Four Sisters Center or call GRover 5-4302. I'd only be too happy to tell you all about our program. SOFTBALL — The Patehogue businessmen ' s softball dinner was a very big success. The outgoing president , Pat Rooney, wished the new president , Chub Coleman , all the luck for the coming year and said that he would do anything within his power to hel p the league. Mayor Robert Waldbauer , Roy Krieger and yours truly hel ped with the awarding of the trophie. The dinner was held at Nancy ' s and we were entertained by Sonny Mannino and his orchestra. A good time was had by all . * * * * _ HALLOWEEN — Approximately 700 goblins , witches , ghosts , pirates , and animals paraded down the Main Street in Patehogue on Halloween. One never realizes how many different costumes there could be. Leading the parade was the WPAC sound truck with the Patehogue Fire Department Light truck lighting up the way for Her Majesty, the Patehogue Roller Rink Queen , and her court in open convertibles. The thousands of people who lined the sidewalks all \ oo 'd\ and \ ah'd\ as the little marchers went b y. The judges were Mayor Robert Waldbauer , Trustee Roy Krieger , Trustee Charles Miller , Trustee Mike Maletta , Fire Chief Win Corston and Town of Brookhaven Recreation Commissioner Jerome Sadofsky I am quite sure that Ed Mitchell of the M erchants Division will agre e with me that next year we will go for broke. I hope that all the contestants and the viewers enjoyed the parade as much as we did. ?
