Added 450 , 000 to Draw SS Pay While Working Beginning in 1961 , an additional 450 , 000 peop le will be able to draw some social security monthl y benefits while they are working, Curtis R. Lee , manager of the Patchogue district office , said this week. Mr. Lee pointed out that a provision of the new social security amendments changes the rules for determining how earnings from work affect a person ' s right to re- ceive monthly benefits. He explain- ed further that the following rules remain unchanged: 1. Anyone earning $1 , 200 or less during a year will still be entitled to receive his full social security check for every month of the year; 2. Anyone who has reached his seventy second birthday will still be abe to receive his full social securit y check for every month no matter how much he works and how much he earns; 3. A person will not have any deduction from his social security check for any month that his ear- nings as an employee are $100 or less or , if he is self-emp loyed , for any month that he does not do sub- stantial work in his business. i> The change made by the recent amendments affects the social se- curity beneficiary whose earnings from employment or self-emp loy- ment go over $1 , 200 a year , Mr. Lee exp lained . For earnings from $1 , 200 to $1 , 500 , $1 in social se- curity benefits will be deducted for each $2 of earnings. For any earn- ings over $1 , 500 $1 of social se- curity benefits will be deducted for each $1 in earnings. Under the old rule , which remains in effect until the end of I960 , a person is re- quired to g ive up his entire month- ly social security check for every $80 or part of $80 by which his earnings go over $1 , 200. \The change in the new law eliminates the possibility that a person may lose considerably more in social security than he earns from his worn—a possibility that existed under the old law , \ Mr. Lee said. He further stated that there are 11 , 100 , 000 people of 65 years of age or over wno are either receiv- ing regular monthly benefits or would be receiving them if the family breadwinner was not work- ing. Of these , about 2 , 000 , 000 will be affected b y the change in the law on the payment of social se- curity checks to peop le who are working. 1 , 400 , 000 of them have not app lied for payments because they are making over $2 , 080 a year , the annual earnings fi gure that generally prevents a person from receiving any social security checks under the old law. Mr. Lee advised that anyone who may be eligible for social security benefits but who has not yet made a claim for them because he is working, should call at the social security office at 38 Oak Street , Patchogue , to inquire about benefits that may be payable under the new law . A pamphlet covering all the changes made by the 1900 amendments is available free at the Patchogue district office. AMERICAN TERMITE CONTRO L CO.
