That evening, teams will canvass the hamlet for this year ' s donations to the American Cancel Society. Steve Borger , 17-year-old son of Mrs. Frances Borger and the late Amos C. Borger , returned Monday with his uncle and his uncle ' s nephew , Paul Kresge and Dale Oles of Patchogue , from Craig Colony, Sonyea , where he spent 13 mouths. Steve will reside with the Kresges and comp lete his high school education in Pat- chogue. Mr. and Mrs. H. Hastings Red- dall returned last week from a month' s tri p to California where they visited Mrs. Robert Singer and her daughter , Mrs. J. H. Sampson , of Arcadia. Anyone interested in hearing about education in Russia , from nursery through college , will want to attend the April meeting of the Firep lace Literary Cluh to be held at 2:30 p. m. Wednesday in the Brookhaven Free Library. Guest speaker will be Anthony Cousins , a retired school principal from Crown Point , who in recent travels in Europe , spent some time in Russia studying educational meth- ods and opportunities. He will show colored moving p ictures as well as give a commentary and answer questions from the audi- ence . Board members of the Par- ent-Teacher Associations from Central School District 4 -are be- ing invited as special guests of the club. Mrs. L. P. Hatch , who served seven years as librarian of the Brookhaven Free Library, resign- ed that part-time position as of March 1 to accept full time em- ployment as a clerical assistant in the Bellport Hi g h School Library. Her resignation was accepted and appreciation for her services was expressed by the library trustees at a meeting held at the library March 27. Until the appointment of a permanent librarian , Mrs. Charles L. Osborne has agreed to substitute. He is a senior at Bell port High School. Bellport Girl to Sin g Sunday With College Choral Group BELLPORT—Miss Sally Ann Roe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Roe , Jr., of 12 Raynor ' s Lane here , will participate with the Centenary Singers in a performance of the oratorio , \Stabat Mater , \ by G. B. Pergolesi , at Centenary College for Women in Hacketts- town, N. J.. Sunday. , The oratori o . will be presented as the annual Easter concert at the college. The 65 singers will perform the outstanding seven- teenth century work with the Dover String Orchestra and with two soloists from the Robert Shaw Chorale. Miss Joan Mey will be the soprano soloist and Miss Louise McClelland the contralto. In addition to the performance of the oratorio Sunday the Centen- ary Singers will tour the eastern United States in May and will embark on their fourth European concert tour in June. Miss Roe a ttended Bayport High School and graduated fro m St. Mary ' s School in Garden City. She is now in her senior year at Centenary College , where she is majoring in education. Miss Sally Ann Roe I Tomorrow Deadline For '60 Boat Berths BELLPORT — Tomorrow is the deadline for the return of applications for boat berths at the village dock for the 1960 season , reminds Mrs. Martha R. Houston , village clerk. Earlier this month , Mrs. Houston mailed application forms out to all residents who had berths last year , giving them first preference this year , but afte r tomorrow those berths not applied for by the previous renters will be allo- cated to new applicants. BHS Bands Set Concert April 8; Party to Follow BELLPORT—The Bellport High School Varsity and Cadet Bands will present their twenty-fifth an- niversary concert in the new , audi- torium April 8. Paul Koehler , the first Bellport music director , will be the guest conductor of the evening. Mr. Koehler organized the Bellport High School Band 25 years ago , started its series of Summer con- certs and led it to a state cham- pionship in VJ38. Fro m Bellport he went to Harrison High School and thence to Great Neck North High School where he is director of instrumental music. A board spokesman said the ad- ' dition is needed to relieve crowded conditions in the district that will ; soon cause a sp lit session schedule . unless additional classrooms are _ • provided. Each time this proposition has been put to the voters it has re- . ceived a favorable vote , but lacked the necessary two-thirds majority. Since the last vote on the issue , the district has been notified of a Federal grant of $98 , 000 that it will receive if favorable action is taken on the construction by April 10 , and this allotment to- gether with emergency state aid will cover the entire cost of con- struction , it has been pointed out , eliminating any increase in local school taxes.
