MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE The Memorial day parade and service conducted Saturday by members of Veterans of Foreign Wars , Cost SR17, was poignantly impressive. Familiar figures set a distance between themselves and spectators by ihe uniforms in which they rejoined departed com- rades whose day it was to be remembered. The ceremony was opened by John Ostrow , senior vice com- mander anil parade marshal , and James Fucci , post commander , at Brookhaven Memorial park. The • enediction was g iven by Robert Terwilliger The ceremony and ad- dress by Major Gordon Scott of ihe Westhamptoii Air base remind- ed solemn listeners of their ob- ligation to the war dead and deals for which they died. A commemorative wreath was laid on the monument by Vice Com- mander Ostrow and floral tokens by M rs. Claire Congonis , Post Commander Fucci and Ollicer-of- the-dav Tom O 'Dunneli. With the tiring of three triple salvoes , the creaking of Old Glory to her place at the top of the flag pole and the echo of taps from the woods were sounds that stirred even those too young to under- stand.
