J., Britting ' s sister , testified last. Tuesday, before both sides rested. Mr . Hurley, appearing as a wit- ness for Prosecutor Silberling. said that Salomon , representing llj e Catholic diocese of Brooklyn , was able to purchase more than 700 parcels of land in St. Charles cemetery in Limlenhurst. Mr . Hurley, who represented the dbieese , said 7PI lots of the cenv-tery wi\ c placed on the tax- rolls and sob] for non-payment of taxes . <lw since l!«)l> , even though cemeteries are tax exempt. Jacobs Admits Profi t _ Perhaps the most startling tes- timony duriiiT the length y, dull trial , occurred May 21 . ' when County Treasurer Chester F. Jacobs , testifying as a prose- cution witness , admit ted under cross examination t hat he had purchased county land in 10\ ,:! and marie a good profit for his investment. On May 21 after he admitt- ed purchasing fax land while wit- n'oved by the treasury, Judge Markewich suggested he see an attorney before answering any niro-e questions. So , of 1 Di Kast Main street , died Tuesday at his home after a brief illness. Pelonging to an old . Patchogue famil y, Mr. Ketcham had lived here all his life, lb' had been em- ployed for the past I' .a years in the Appellate division of the New York State Supreme court in Brooklyn . His last position there was oilicia] opinion clerk. Known for his punctuality and devotion to his duties , he could often be seen as he walked to the station every da} - , even through rain or snow and ice , to catch the Long Island Roal Road train to Brook- l yn. A graduate of Patchogue High school , Mr . Ketcham bega n his court career as a clerk for Judge Wilmot M. Smith (for whom is named the school on Bay avenue in Patchogue). Then he began tak- ing court cases as a stenographer with the Supreme court , but when Judge Walter H. Jaycox was pro- moted to the Appellate division , he took Mr. Ketcham along with him to the Brooklyn court. Long active in Republican cir- cles , Mr. Ketcham ran for Brook- haven justice of the peace in the early nineteen-hundreds. He was elected , too , recalls Patchogue lawyer Joseph Losee , Mr. Ket- cham ' s brother-in-law , but re- signed before taking office .
